I don't have any kids nor consider it evidence of failure. It would be easy to take on that interpretation of the situation but I try not to.

People seem to think I am selfish or hard-hearted because I do not have children. It is kind of an assumption in our society- remember those commercials? "Be a winner in the game of Life, be a winner in the game of Life...get married, have a baby!" But do I really need to pass my genes on? The question should be, "Am I able to pass my genes on?" Because my other otter and I are infertile, the topic is irrelevant.
At least people have stopped asking us "when" we are going to have children.

I would never look at myself as a failure for not having children. I have overheard women making nasty comments on how a female isn’t really a woman until she has had children. I’ve had comments directed at me about how I was being selfish by not wanting to share my life with a child. I don’t see how I’m being selfish. If anything, I’m saving everyone the trouble of having to care for my child if I can’t or I am unwilling to care for a child.

The last thing this planet needs on it is more people.

(That statement is not meant to offend anyone who has or is thinking of having children. I‘m just stating a fact.)

No, you are not a failure. I have a kid and I don't see how that makes me successful at anything. hmmm. Perhaps a good lie detector, but anyways....

i do not think of it as failing if u don't want kids or can't have them. if u don't want kids u are doing society a favour by not having them.

there are peoples that judge childless peoples are being selfish or whatever. u could be like a mother theresa type person and still be considered selfish by these peeps cos u have not got kids.

but this quote made sense to me " that which is worthless cannot be made valuable by the addition of a child." (i don't have a clue who said it)

anyway as for me i currently don't want any kids(i am 23 right now though so i could change my mind later on in the piece)

I don't know what the word failure means anymore but I would say no.

Then there'd be more people in the world. :x If it weren't for the life of Hitler the world would be a little worse right now. I don't say that to offend. I mean it, the people of the world wouldn't have learned a lesson, and the world would be infested with several hundred million more people.

But all the smart people are not the ones having kids.

Rent "Idocracy".

Its by the guy that did office space its not funny cause its too true.

I never imagined the pressure women must have on them when it comes to kids.

I already achived everything I wanted in life. I didnt think I'd live this long . Maybe thats why I'm bored and depressed :(

Interesting opinions here. My two cents:

I'd say it's important to, at least at one point in your life, learn what it means to offer guidance/take partial responsibility for/share your experience with another life. Whether you biologically created that person, adopted them or simply stepped into the role of a mentor for them is less important.

i wouldnt think so, but sociaty might. the government defintly does and gives people tax breaks if they have kids, the more kids you have the more tax breaks while the single individual is punished for choosing or not choosing to have children by higher taxes

No action in this world has an intrinsic positive or negative value.
No action in this world has an intrinsic positive or negative value.

It's up to you to form a belief/value system that helps you accomplish your goals. f**k what other people "consider".
