I'm still hoping to build my daughter her own electric car in the next two years for the day she is of age to drive.
I'm shopping for a Volkswagen Cabriolet/Rabbit.
I've already got the source lined up for the electric conversion for it.

I figure an electric car is perfect for the parents of a teen driver...

1. limited range - 30 miles or less on a charge
2. limited speed - < 60 mph, although with the right parts some folks build electric cars that burn rubber!
3. quiet so you don't have to hear them drive away from the house or back to it late at night.... oh... wait... that's a plus for the teen... not the parent!

That's a great idea!

YOU DARE CHALLENGE ME!??????

You will have your pictures... just as soon as my daughter gets home and finds our camera in that room of hers.

I AIN'T GOIN IN THERE! 8O

I'll even wear my Wrong Planet shirt and cap again! :D

'course, I don't know how I'm gonna prove that the car in the picture is really mine

HEY! WAIT A MINUTE!... that's not fair... I had a bike when I was your age... and I did all my calculations with my fingers and toes! didn't need no stinkin' computer then... even if they were big as house and slow as pencil and paper!

Nice work with the Big Red MissConstrue. :D
I think wsmac means that while he can take a picture of himself with "His" car. How would we all KNOW it's actually his car and not say...his friends...ex-wifes...daughters....someone off the streets. You know what I mean. What kind of picture can he take that will let "The Unbelievers" KNOW beyond a doubt that it is "His" car. Picture of the title would work but noone wants to do that online.

I have a red Prius too. Is yours the dark red or the light red? Mine's the lighter red because I can pretend I'm driving a sportscar.

I love my car so much. I used to have a Saturn, but it wasn't until I drove a Prius til I realized what an awesome car it is. So reliable too, I've never had any problems with it. When mine runs out, I might just buy another!

I'm not sure what red it is, it's the only red they had on the lot.
My daughter took two pictures last night but I won't be able to post them until tonight.
I'm at school right now and should be doing some class work

MissConstrue... Congrats on your new html skills! YEAH... YOU GOT SKILLS! :D

Mage... someone told me that even though I got a red car... which in the U.S. is typically thought of as a cop magnet for getting speeding tickets... since it's a Prius (read that... not a sports car and not likely to catch the highway patrol's attention  ), I probably won't spend too much time pulled over at the side of the highway like real, red, sports cars.

I guess some people see the Prius as maybe and 'older' person's car, slower-than-everyone-else car...?

Speaking of saving gas money, I have heard that people are filling up their cars with grease from restaurants.

Here TimTex

http://www.floridabiodieselinc.com/home ... .html#B-60

you can't beat approx 63 cents a gallon. Plus you recycle used oil from restaraunts, and they'll usually give it to you because they normally pay to have someone haul it away. Actually if you just underbid their current waste oil arrangement they may even pay you to haul it off and you'd pay even less than 63 cents a gallon. :D

Okay... here's the pic.

I'm in a hurry... got called in to work for someone tonight, so I just quickly posted it to GOOGLE/Picasa.. which may or may not work.

You also get to see the... "Little Blue House on the Corner" :D from my blurb to the left, under my avatar

I'm wearing my Black Workman's Utilikilt, Wrong Planet T-Shirt, and Wrong Planet Cap... and my Chaco Sandals.

unfortunately... none of these are paid endorsements :( Image

And YES... it really is my car!

And NO I am really not smug about it... I just like to pretend to be :P

It looks just like mine!

My husband hates my car. Not because it's a family sedan, but because it's hard for him to park. He drives an Insight which is a lot smaller and has a smaller turning radius. God forbid he ever drive a "real" car again!

I think the only car that *might* take the place of Prius in my heart is the Smartcar. I used to see them in Germany all the time and think how cute they were. And my husband would like it too, they're just his size.

My faith in humanity remains intact.
Think of how cheap it would be to drive your daughter to Fairbanks now!
Its beautiful wsmac, and after reading Mages comments too, it makes me want one even more.

Thanks Reika!

Mage, we have a few Smart Cars here in Humboldt County... it's quite the Green part of the state... politically and environmentally speaking.

We also have an active Electric Car Association. They take every opportunity to show off their cars at fairs, farmer's markets, etc.

This is where I saw my first electric Beetle (an older 70's model).

In my little area alone we have a couple of Alternative Energy stores where you can get advice and the parts for solar, wind, and water energy.

Although I would not call myself an enviromentalist, I do what I can.

I happened to walk past the Toyota dealership at the top of the road near my work, look over, and guess what... not a prius to be seen, guess no one wanted them so they gave up selling them and sent them back to Toyota, lol

Well, either that or they sold out!

It was just a few years ago when people were putting their names on waiting lists to buy one.
