I'm embarrassed to say it, but we had a train track behind our house when I was really little, and other than waiving to the conductor, or saying choo-choo, I was never really into trains. My parents even bought me three different train sets at different times, but I wasn't very interested in them. I burned the transformer out on one (forgot to turn it off) and they had to buy a whole new set to replace the transformer. The other one, an H.O. scale model was way too complicated to put together and I gave up.

8O No interest in trains? What kind of aspie are you??

^JOKING (reference to "all aspies love trains stereotype")

Yeah, trains aren't for everyone, but I'm kind of jealous of the fact that you had trains tracks behind your house. :)

Very nice train pictures in this thread EvilKimEvil. Petaluma has the Petaluma Trolley Living History Railway Museum that you might want to go see if you have not done so already. It's on the way to my favorite tide pools so I haven't stopped there and can't tell you exactly what they have. It could be worth your time.

I also like trains, and ride them whenever I get the chance, though I've limited myself to passenger types only since the mid-80's. Riding Amtrak's NEC is a blast, though I've not been on the Acela as of yet.

Also, I really dislike the domination of current GE -8, -9, and EVO series locomotives. --I prefer the older EMD's, especially the SD-40-2's, which was one of the best units that they produced.

Luv TRAINS and the motion when riding them. They have a soothing feel to them and I enjoy viewing the abstracts of a place. 8)

Haven't ridden that many for a good reason.
Sadly I don't live in a place where they're available for transportation. :(

I hope one day to travel to Europe and ride the trains there.
I have always wondered how different the ambiance and general travelling issues would be from riding North American trains.

Oh, that sounds exciting! I used to go to the train museum in Baltimore all the time when I was a kid, but I haven't been to one since. I'll have to look up where Petaluma is.

It's not that far of a drive for you.
Somewhere around an hour if traffic is in your favor on the 580 or 880.

There's another one way up the tracks as though they are heading up a mountain.
The first train I posted is from Snowdon Mountain Railway. The railway is used to give tours of the area. These trains are cool because they have a third rail between the normal two called rack and pinion for traction.

Are they located in Wales? Is that the Welsh flag on the train?

I saw some sort of hooked track or rail below the train and wondered what that might be.

They ARE in Whales! Nice job. You have an eye for detail, I didn't see the flag or the second train.

I miss hearing the trains in Pilot Mountain. I moved to Dobson where there are no railroads. :(

[quote="EvilKimEvil"]Yeah, I like the vintage mechanical systems too. It would be really, really cool to convert an old train car into a house! I bet it's been done, but I couldn't find a picture so I'm going to post more old train pictures instead.

Railcar Home

Buy Yourself a Caboose!

Go Vacation In a Caboose

A Video About Making a Caboose Your Home

Maude in the movie Harold & Maude, lived in a converted railcar! :D

I could do this!
It would be nice and small and I could have out-buildings for other stuff like storage, a studio, etc.

My grandfather worked on the railroads back in the 1940's - 1980's I remembered once when I was visiting he took me for a little train ride. I don't know what model it was, but he drive it across the yard. It wasn't far, but I do remember how loud it was and how much it shook as we slowly crawled down the track. Good times.

Trains are cool. Every time I get the chance I always count how many cars a train is pulling. It is fun.
