I am lucky to be in a city where there are plenty.

There is Blackwells, Waterstones and we have Borders in the UK, including a HUGE branch in this city.

I usually go to Barnes & Noble and Borders. I've been going there a lot to learn how to install stuff in Kubuntu because trying to do it is a pain in the neck for new Linux users like me.

You can try asking in the computers & technology forum here too, if you want.

Sometimes I'll go to a bookstore and look around in all the usual places, not find anything new, and start trying to find some new category of books to like. :D

There used to be a Waldenbooks/B Dalton at Lloyd Center,
but Barnes and Noble came along and ate Waldenbooks' customers up.

Waldenbooks then had to close down.

Usually, I go to Powell's Books or Borders.

Powell's has some cheap books you can buy for $2,
and some books on sale range from $5 to $12.

Average price is $14.

I was at Powell's this afternoon.
Was looking for a particular book, but couldn't find a cheap copy.

Didn't know Schuler's was local. I've been there once, B&N quite a few times, two smaller book stores whose names I don't know...and a few places that sell used books.

I usually just get my books from Goodwill or whatever, though...so much cheaper.

Even if they do charge me adult prices for childrens' books sometimes ¬_¬

Barnes & Noble, Borders, and Books-A-Million are really the only choices here. Waldenbooks is pretty crappy. Sadly, there are no really good used book stores around here. Back home in Maine, all of the good used Book Stores have vanished do to really high rent prices. --There used to be a lot of them up there.

When I was younger, it was Waldens or B. Dalton, or the library. Now if it's something I want to check out in person, it's either Borders or Barnes & Noble. If I want it cheaper, Amazon or there's a pretty decent used book store near UCR in Riverside. Another used bookstore I like is 2nd Story in Claremont. The local library in town sucks...so I don't go.

There is also a small bookstore in my neighborhood
that sells & buys back good used books.

It is called St. Johns Booksellers.

Unfortunately, a Starbucks is across the street from it.

SJB has a "sibling" bookstore in the form of a non-profit
bookstore I volunteered at for senior year.

Laughing Horse is in the East Burnside area of Portland.
Just like SJB, it sells & buys back good used books.
It is a bookstore that specializes in selling
politically-themed books and related media.

According to some "veteran" volunteers,
LH is the only political bookstore in Portland.

Unfortunately, its location is crappy
and "The Council" is considering a move
to the area around Portland State University.

One of my favorite places The York Emporium:

There isn't any big book stores in my area like Barnes & Noble, but there is Pages Book Store in Mount Airy which I visit every now and again. I mostly stick to the library though, or amazon. :D

Waldenbooks used to have to give me any paperback I wanted free (They made a deal with my school) and now I go to a local HUGE alaskan owned new and used bookstore where you can sell them your old books also called "Title Wave Books" I love it there.
I try to stay out of bookstores cause it always costs me a lot of money to get out of one. (Bad book-buying habit)
I also use Amazon.com when Tital Wave doesn't have it, but try to stay out of Barnes and Nobles cause I'd rather support "The Little Guy" than the big corporation
