I'm scared to get one (mostly because I know the statistics) but my sister has 3 and is going to get another... she's been trying to get me to get one for 2 years and even has $50 set aside for it.

I have no experience with Tattoos so I can't give you any advice in that aspect. However, maybe you should try getting one of those ink tattoos. I'm not sure what they are called but they are like real tattoos except they only last for a few months.

That way you can at least make sure that you choice the right one if you decide to get it permanantly.

I have wanted to get a tattoo on many occasions, but am always too indecisive to go through with it. I almost went with the "barbed wire around the arm" when I was younger, but too many people already had it, so that idea was out. Now, I don't know if I'll ever get one. Maybe someday that "perfect idea" will strike me, and I'll go through with it? Only time will tell.....

well, it's mainly old f**ts like me (but in the managerial ranks) that have problems hiring people with tattoos. Everyone in this family has a tattoo (except me and the granddaughter, and i wouldn't be surprised if she gets one a decade from now). I'm a diabetic, I get enough needles already...;)

I've always wanted a big proper one on my back. but I want to get it done the traditional method, it might be a lot more painfull but I don't care, I just can't stand that drilling sound that tattoo machines make. so I might get one in Japan if I ever get there, a big, traditional piece, but nothing that would show (it will be for my eyes only ;p)

That's like me jawbrodt. I wanted to get a tattoo of barbed wire around my arm and then I was interested in the celtic patterns. It is like people can read my mind because then every one else gets the same and so then I don't want a tattoo.
Half the time I think people's tatoo's look crap anyway but when I saw this fairy tattoo it striked me - I want a tattoo.

Well, I've been gainfully employed for the last twenty years, have claimed welfare for a total of three months in my entire life when I was really desperate, have never smoked, and despise reality TV. I had to leave college because my folks were pestering me to get a job. I drink good beer on occasion and cuss when it seems called for.

And I have two tattoos, both of which have personal significance to me, neither of which I regret, and both of which I had done after the age of 35. My employers don't have a dress code, and as for being a tattooed wrinkly...doesn't everyone get old, inked or not?

Seriously, it is about commitment. Whether it's something you're committed to now and always (like your spirituality or a principle you live by), or something you experienced for a while that will always be part of what made you who you are (like the band that first turned you on to music), you have to accept that it will be permanent, so it'd sure as heck better mean something. Removal is possible, of course, but that would be like getting married on the assumption that divorce is always an option - i.e. a bit pointless. And getting a tattoo because having one is 'cool', i.e. fashionable, is a contradiction in terms if you think about it. It's the people who've done that who do regret it later.

Ideally, first find a tattooist who is a) qualified (with hygiene certificates etc.), b) does art in a style you love, and c) you feel personally comfortable with him/her...discuss what you want and see what they can come up with. Having something personally designed is more likely to get you something you can happily live with than just picking from the flash.

I am artistic and have an eye for detail. Just picking by flash works fine by me. When I see what I like. I know it.

I like tattoos even though I have not got one myself. But I do not like them when they feather. I like tattoos with clean crisp outlines.
I have considered getting one often but I cannot make up my mind what design. If I ever get one, I would like to have it reinked over every few years so it retains its freshly done appearance and does not feather through neglect. I have seen plenty of old faded and feathered tattoos on old men and I would not like to see it end up like one of those

I've been wanting to get "inked" for about a decade now but still have yet to because I couldn't definitively choose what I wanted. But now I know the only drawback is it's elaborate and because part of it will be completely covering my right arm I'll always have to wear long sleeves at work as Wal-Mart and its subsidiaries have a policy on tatts and piercing. An additinal drawback is that I would have to get each eliment done in multiple visits as one single visit would probably mean several hours in the chair and/or on the table.

I can't stop you, but remember, that the day will come when tattoos are considered old-fashioned and uncool. And the day will come when you're an old, wrinkly lady..with a tattoo. Tattoos are forever, unless you want them removed, which hurts even more that having them put on...

s'ok..you can do what you like, but do give some thought to the above...

Well said. I've never seen a tattoo that I thought was attractive. Mostly they're quite repulsive.

The best advice I have ever heard about tattoos-

Don't get a flash drawing tattoo'd onto your body. Try to find out who the real artists are in your area, and get good custom work. Don't be afraid to say "no" if you don't like something, either.
