Thought so. Don't know anyone who collects Yank tanks.

 "Yank tanks" - I like it. I happen to like my yank tank, thanks.

Are you talking about the M1 Abrams? :?

Thought this was a common expression(!?)

Certainly not in the US of A. We're still in the self loathing phase as regards our auto industry, and not secure enough to use clever derogatory names ;p

I'm guilty...

Toys:
1974 Ford Escort Mk1 Coupe 1600
1978 Ford Escort BC Coupe 1600.
1978 Ford Cortina TE (Mk4) 5.0ltr V8 ('96 Mustang Engine, highly modified, 296kw in 1085kg)
1982 Ford Falcon XE EFI S-Pack Wagon
1985 Ford Falcon XF EFI S-pack Sedan
1986 Ford Fairmont EFI Wagon

Family Car:
1994 Mitsubishi Pajero V6 GLS Full Option 7 Seat Wagon.

There's many cars I've built I miss  others that I was glad to see go. No one else is allowed to drive or has ever driven my Escorts or Cortina.

I had some bloke stop me the other day and ask if I ran a car yard

You mean you've built custom cars?? Or just 'built' as in keeping them going?

Both. When you pull out the oxy and start cutting them up and putting panels from other cars in their place it becomes pretty custom. Or a V8 in a Cortina alone is very custom, the car was designed for a 4 cyl.

The first car I built started as a $200 wreck that I cut up. Toyota Corona RT81, Fitted a Ford Capri V6, 4 speed borg warner. Flares from a Holden Torana, spoilers from a Holden GTS HX, cut the skin off the bonnet and replaced it with the skin from a Ford Falcon XB GS. Fitted brakes and diff from the later model RT104. This was at the age of 16. I swapped this car for a stock 1971 Falcon XA GT coupe (horrid car btw and wish I'd kept the Corona).

When I start a new car project the first thing I do is strip it to the last nut and bolt and bare metal and then start putting it together again with 'my' precision to detail, modifying as needed to attempt to prevent the wear or rust that was caused by it's poor design. I would never let anyone touch a spanner to my cars or let them refinish the body work.

I have a build in the 'think' process at the moment. A fastbacked Mk1 Escort (very custom body), built over a Cortina floor pan (wider track and different suspension), Fitted with a 351 all alloy windsor V8. A whole lot of power in a very small chassis. I'd post my concept sketches but until 5 days are up I can't link pics or urls.

If you mean as in manufacture my own parts, then no, not for road use. It's too hard to get parts like that passed inspection. It's fine for a paddock basher or a go-kart though.

PICS ! !! I need to see PICS ! !! Think what you could do with a Corvair chassis. Rear engine, air cooled, thus you could do anything you want with the rest ! !!

i hope you reinforced that cortina's frame. i'd hate to see it twisted and ripped in half by the monstrous torque of that (most likely not stock since it's a custom job) V8 engine. one thing i've always wanted to do is put a V8 in a fiero. i've never owned a fiero, i hear they're friggin death traps but it's pretty light, really small, and can apparently hold a small block v8. i saw a vid of a fiero with a supercharged v8 in it, definitely not the safest thing to drive on the road  8)

Isn't that the one that they put a glassfibre shell on to make it look like a Countach?

I'm still a new driver so:

My car:
1998 Ford Taurus, ~110000 miles on it but still in great shape.

Hopefully my next car, if I get a better paying job and work more hours:
1997/98/99 Chevy Corvette C5 Convertible, Nassau Blue Metallic (or at least I'll have it painted that) with a tan interior. My great uncle owns one of the largest car dealership chains in Illinois and me and my grandpa have talked to him a lot about Vette's and I'm hoping to get a good deal :)

My dream:
1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, or 1996 Ferrari F50 GT :D
