Segregation was in full effect, there were no Miranda rights, and only a handful of schools were integrated. The Army was using most of the same equipment they had in WWII...rifles still had wooden stocks. In the South, you couldn't get gas on Sunday morning, anything alcoholic the whole day. Stamps were just a few pennies (maybe 3...) apiece.
People still took airplanes most places, jets were being introduced to the public (well, to be honest, most airlines had them, but short-haul flights often had propellers).
Movies didn't have ratings, because the Hayes commission wouldn't let you have 14 categories of action (including bad guys winning, long kisses, or bad cops). Art films came from Europe, and pr0n was unknown to many people.
TV had 3 channels. There were a few UHF stations, but that was it.
Telegraphs were the email you'd get, and those cost money.
Schools did nuclear war drills (they stopped before I actually got to school in the 60s, but older folks will remember 'duck and cover'...
