inspirational:the pursuit of happiness, mr. smith goes to washington.
dark comedy:the ruling class.
musical: cabaret, fiddler on the roof.
rainy day movie:ferris bueller's day off, a fish called wanda, kiss kiss bang bang, the crow
silent film: city lights
comedy: life of brian(offensive to some)
criterion collection movies: fear and loathing in las vegas, sullivan's travels
action:butch cassidy and the sundance kid

Isn't Contact the movie about aliens sending messages to Earth that stars Jodie Foster?

There's a great South Park Quote about Contact but I won't use it because it spoils the ending.

Is that a recommendation to watch Contact, or a warning?

How about the 2nd hellboy movie? No one in the house wants to see it but me...;)

Same here, I'm the only one looking forward to Hellboy 2, it seems. I really liked the first Hellboy, Ron Perlman was great. And the monsters and that mechanical Nazi ninja were pure genius.

There hasn't been good sci-fi come out in years.

Yeah, there don't seem to be that many sci-fi films being made anymore... nowhere near the number that were being made during the 1950's (of course, most of the movies from that era were pretty cheesy.) Looks like people have lost interest in the sci-fi genre... :(

Good fun films to rent: The Island, Rat Race, The Simpsons Movie, any James Bond, Hancock, 21, Click and The Matrix (the first one, the rest suck).

What about the great sci-fi series that came out in the 90's? Sliders, Nowhere Man, First Wave to name a few. There was a resurgence of sci-fi. I think the problem is two-fold. When Isaac Asimov and Ray Bradbury died we lost two people that inspired generations of sci-fi fans and secondly kids today are more into animae than live action stuff. Sci-Fi fans tended to be big readers and people today have lost interest in reading.

I just watched Loveless in Los Angeles with Brittany Daniel. She's so hot! The movie was surprisingly good relationship movie and much better than I expected.

I remembered some other good movies- Ancient Relic is one of the best action films I've seen in ages. Other suggestions are October Sky, Ladies in Lavender, The Red Violin, End of the Spear and Smoke Signals.

Flick pics topic

I like drama series, but not Hollywood ones. I like BBC historical drama DVDs.

Moves include The Pianist, Snowcake, World Trade Centre, Goodnight and Good Luck.

These are the kind you can "lose yourself" in.

"Buackaroo Banzai", hilarious take on Sci-Fi.

"The President's Analyst", you probably can't find it, but if you do, it's a CLASSIC.

"The Thing", the John Carpenter version, positively the most claustrophobic horror film ever.
