i was very scared of clowns as a child. it was because their teeth all looked so dirty and yellow/brown against the pure whiteness of their facial makeup.

when i was older, i just thought they were dumb distractions.

the only time i ever laughed at clowns was in a movie where bank robbers wore clown masks with goofy wide smiles and orange fuzzy hair.
i seized in laughter to hear their enraged voices behind those permanently smiling masks.
it was a serious movie (not a comedy).
there was one line in it that went "c'mon!! c'mon!! get the drawer open b*tch or i'll blow ya f*ckin' head off" and it was shouted with that goofy frozen smile. very amusing it was to me.

I'd probably be scared of them, since I'm scared of everything.

I really enjoyed playing the sims and burning them to death though ^_^;

I don't know what this is - kind of like The Onion I guess - but there are some very interesting observations about (and cases against) clown art. This picture - in particular.

I have a fascination with the circus---so clowns do not generally bother me. But Stephen King's clown from It was truly scary.

I do have a funny story though. When I was in school it was common to bring in this local celebrity clown who had a group of three? other clowns. They would play music and then walk around on stilts. This clown arrived drunk for one of our school assemblies and proceeded to grab a younger female teacher and dirty dance with her in front of a shocked school audience. Consequently, he was never invited back to our school.

If there is anyone here from the southern Ohio, northern Kentucky, or northern West Virginia area (we call it the Tri-State region), then you may have heard of this famous local clown that performed in many of this regions's schools in the 1970s era (He was probably around before then too and perhaps into the 1980s or after).

That's hilarious. Reminds me of the drunk clown in Uncle Buck - who just came in from a bachelorette party. But your story is funnier. Dirty Dancing...! Poor teacher probably has major PTSD and is TERRIFIED of and HATES clowns now. You don't just get over that without therapy and who would want to go through therapy to get over clowns?

! !!Shudder!! ! :shaking:

It was hilarious for us---but not for the poor teacher. She was petrified. I was sitting in one of the rows close to her at the time. I can still remember the smell of alcohol around him because we would get to talk to him after the show.

Do a little research and I bet you can find out who he was. I would give a thousand dollars (if I had it) to have that assembly on video.

Scared of clowns ??

That's silly. Clowns bring laughter, and help us see the funny side of life. I never heard of anyone being scared of clowns until Billy Bob Thornton said it just to get publicity for whatever movie he was starring in at that time.

lolz My boyfriend and I were talking about evil clowns earlier.

When it comes to clowns, I don't have any problems with them. They can be pretty funny.

Oh - you busted me. I'm just saying it for publicity, too.

Anyway - they're phobias because they lack reason and logic. I am not afraid of elevators or flying - but I can understand why a lot of people are.

Billy Bob is a douche bag - but he was probably serious. He's all messed up in the head. (like us).

There are some clowns I don't like, but I guess I tolerate most.

I always was put off by clowns as a child and found them to be boring. I know exactly why, too.

Large, pronounced facial structures as an effect of the make-up. Enlarged, accented eyes and mouths. I was freaked out by faces in my childhood due to my autistic perception.

Also, the common social jokes just aren't entertaining to me due to my autism too.

I strongly dislike Insane Clown Posse's fanbase.
Who pretty much almost count as clowns themselves.

Krusty the Clown's the only one I can think of who makes me laugh (not counting mocking laughter.) I have this little plastic Krusty key chain thing from Burger King that says "Hey, hey, hey! It's your old pal, Krusty!" when you push the button. I have his gravelly smoker voice burned into my memory forever.

I really don't like clowns. (cept maybe the joker from Batman, because he was that way for obvious reasons.) Not out of fear, but for other reasons. First, their makeup. Second, this "smile everything will be better" kind of pisses me off. It feels like a reminder of all the times I got told to be "happy and fake". Third, I just don't get what's funny, and watching everyone else get it, while being poked and unverbaly motivated like I need to hurry up with grasping the process, annoys me to.
