That is a good observation. Non-verbal information is often misidentified as telepathy.

There have been times word popped into my mind when I was in conversation with someone, or just doing something with someone nearby.
One time when I worked for Mister Scrooge, his housekeeper had dropped by and was cleaning. I was wrapping a present for Mister Scrooge, and I kept hearing the words, 'can you help me with this'. Which was silly because I wrap presents quite nicely, thank you. She kept sweeping, and as I finished she came over to me and said 'nice job, you know a couple of weeks ago Mister Scrooge was wrapping a present, and called out to me, can you help me with this??'

Happens from time to time.

In addition to this we only consciously access a small portion of the huge amount of data going through our heads at any given time.

I was in Amsterdam once and came across a hologram shop. I was checking out the holograms and came across some that were of telescopes and microscopes. When you put your eye up to where the hologram projected the eye piece, you could see through the telescope or into the microscope. That is a pretty incredible property for something that doesn't exist in the third dimension.

The brain has holographic properties but exists in three physical dimensions. Where does the mind reside, and what can it really do?

I like that, sartresue.

Again, my theory on telepathy is that it is possible, but how much of it is in the Aspie community and how much of it is in the NT community? I would like a truthful roll call of people who have had a moment of "hearing" another person's words when they did not speak. Should that be here or on a new thread, do you think?

Well, I haven't ever heard a person's words when they did not speak, but I have heard a person's words when they did speak, but not standing close enough for me to physically hear them with my ears. On one occasion, the person was in the Texas Panhandle when I was in North Texas near Dallas, and that person also heard me on another occasion. Another person who lives in Eastern Pennsylvania heard my voice on several occasions when I was speaking as if to her while I was sitting in my car driving home from work here in Texas. It's really neat when I am sending my voice because I always feel the other person's surprise on hearing my voice. But when receiving, I get to experience the other person's voice the way they hear it inside their head. Of course I am probably not an aspie, nor do I think I qualify for typical neurotically.

Now, let's see if I am going to be your only respondent.

Does anyone think this has something to do with being on the autistic spectrum? Can it be some sort of protective measure? At work, one of my co-workers suspected this and put it to the test by humming songs and letting me guess the titles. At one point, he stood behind his cubicle and hummed the songs in his mind only. I guessed those too. BUT I can't hear everybody. Some I know. Some are complete strangers. Over the weekend, I stopped at a 711 store to pick up a newspaper and heard the cashier (a young man) think this: "You're not too bad for an old bag". I answered him and said, "48 hardly can be considered an old bag!"
I left the store and he stood there gaping at me. He forgot to collect the money for the paper and I just left out of embarrassment because this is the first time I put it to the test myself.
People think rude thoughts! More rude than good.

How do you know that you are right about what they are thinking. Have you considered that you might be reading their facial expressions and body language? That is not telepathy.
