The Winchester house - this has to be the place Stephen King had in mind in Rose Red, do you think? The moral for me is - avoid crazy Psychics! Or shoot them. Whatever. :)

Quote:
It was the grandest (and perhaps largest) house in the South. Of all the plantations destroyed in the South, it is considered the greatest loss. The scale of the house is hard to understand. If you look at the front porch landing where the front door is---that is 12 feet off the ground level. The ceilings inside were 15 feet tall. It had some of the most incredible plaster work of any house ever built in America. But yes, at the expense of slavery. And that was not a good thing. Although this plantation, Belle Grove, was lost to a fire and collapsed structural elements in the mid-20th Century, it is survived by its neighbor, Nottaway, as the second grandest plantation in the South.

Made me think of 'Gone with the Wind' so I was close! - sorry I got onto this thread so late, fun and interesting stuff. The rock house gives me the heebie jeebies, for some reason.

I think I'm disqualified to answer, if we're not supposed to know anything is special about it. I don't know the particulars, but there is something about it which designates is a registered landmark building. In fact, although I've never seen to that house as far as I know, I'd place a bet that it's in old downtown Sacramento, CA.

If I hadn't noticed that, I'd say I didn't get any emotional vibes from it one way or the other. I like that kind of architecture though.

May I please have the Rock House?

Please?

I am so delighted by the look of the Upside-Down House, I cannot 'feel' anything but appreciation for the artistry!

More houses, please... And did everyone Google Mrs. winchester's sad story? So unhappy, so lonely, carrying someone else's guilt!

 That's my favorite part. I love how they designed it to look like it was picked up, rotated upside down, and then genteelly placed back down on top of the other building. Not too much damage, but just enough cosmetic damage, cracking, etc. to look like real stress damage from being upside down. I like that special little touch to add a hint of realism to it.

Pleasant, open, perhaps lacking privacy.

Feel like I recognise it, it reminds me of the house in Hitchock's 'North by Northwest'.

Maybe you have seen it, if you ever saw Woody Allen's 1973 science fiction comedy "Sleeper."

Sleeper House

"Sleeper House" is an iconic Colorado home that motorists can catch a glimpse of when they drive up or down Interstate 70 in the foothills. The modern building, whose official name is The Sculptured House, was built in 1963 by architect Charles Deaton. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but it also landed on Forbes' list of America's Ugliest Mansions in 2012. ("This private mansion is perfect...for aliens," Forbes wrote.) The nickname comes from the house being featured in Woody Allen's 1973 science fiction comedy "Sleeper." It is located on a mountain in Jefferson County near the Genesee exit.
