I know. It was a poor attempt to shoehorn in something vaguely related to what you were saying. I apologise

I understand. No need to apologise. :)

All we Americans talk about is abortion and guns. Occasionally there is some noise about Afghanistan or something.

And celebrities.
And diets.
And the weather.
And other countries being more/less violent than America.

OK, I don't know what is going on here, but it almost made me puke with laughter.

The British have comedy and the Americans have guns.

This is copypasted from TV Tropes' page on British Stuffiness , the gist of which is pretty much what I was going to put, minus any actual clarity and without coherent punctuation; it's a bit generalisation-y too.

"Americans, as a part of a culture, are actively encouraged to emote to the point that the lack of active emotional content in one's speech and mannerisms is considered quite rude or even anti-social. Thus, the more reserved culture of the British can make its people come off as acting 'flat' or just plain false to Americans, who are used to their own more emotive culture. Likewise, to Brits —especially older Brits— the typical American emotional response is hysterical and bipolar at best and maliciously, sneeringly rude at worst."

I love UK. I wish I can live in London. It's my favourite city.
Above quote is so true and that's one of the reasons why I feel more comfortable being in UK than the US.
I act rather flat and speak very quietly so I think I fit right in with the Brits.
Also, I grew up in Japan so left side traffic is no problem for me.

But I'm only familiar with the east coast of the US and I hear the west coast is very different so I'm thinking of moving there.

Cause they choose to pay ridiculous amounts of money for their %^&*TY little homes with out central heating their the sort of strange people's who seem to think that a 3 hr round trip to "work"is a reasonable amount of travel time. When ever I "watch " those "escape"programs or " renovation " shows I laugh and than I pity them.

Not that the aussies are any better Aussie= English redneck's.

Being Swiss naturally I see myself as superior to the English or any other nation for that matter bar the Germans (I respect them cause they still make %^&*T unlike the English how do you export your selfs out of your mess huh ? With with those flashy financial products of yours? Good god in the 90's when little emperor Blair got on his podium and told the us that England's was now "Cool Britannia" the alarm bells where ringing, when he told the"world"that England had become"richer"than France I choked on my Wheet Bix ,why on earth is he comparing England to France if what Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear fame says is true about that country ie a communist backwater .

Don't get me started on Ireland, don' worry the ^&*^ will hit the fan here to , than it's back to CH!

I watch a lot of American media, but I haven't actually been there, so I can't compare America and England.

If any one bothered to read my "rant " did you ? I bet not :D I'm am not a fan of England (if it matters to you and I know it does not) Sadly many their have not worked out the empire is no more , time for Australia to cut the cord and grow up and become a republic :)

Don't get me started on their royals.

Though I am very fond Jeramy Clarkson ( a living treasure) his views of Americans made me laugh , to vulgar for this forum so I shant repeat it, try google or pm me if you wish.

I'm completely "smitten by the Brits" and have been for years.
I've been watching "Top Gear" all my life, had a bunch of British cars...Austin Healey Sprite, MGB, XKE Jag. Love their humor, and forthrightness.
And, since I'm American, I'm also slightly jealous of their health care system. I would love to feel as if my health mattered to my fellow man.
If I could afford it, I'd be an Ex-Pat in a New York minute.
I've always dreamed of meeting a nice, intellectual, decent, guy from across the pond, and I could be his saucy American lady.
Don't even get me started on their sexy accent :P
Finally coming to London and Salisbury Hill too ( Of course ) for my first trip this Oct to see Peter Gabriel. PSYCHED ! !! !! !

the reason i would not like to live in england is because it is so gloomy.
i especially am not impressed with what i have seen from my observations of london.

when i was flying into heathrow in my flight simulator a few years ago, i noticed how drab the roofs of the buildings looked, and how narrow the streets were, so i went to google earth and went on a tour of london to see if flight simulator was accurate. it was.

from an elevated view, i saw that most of the roofs of the buildings were very old and dirty, and the streets were indeed very narrow. i decided to go into street view to see if the sides of the buildings were as dirty, and they were. to my surprise, it seems that the plumbing on nearly every building was external, and they had horrid looking pipes (that looked like scaffolding) on the outside of the walls of the buildings.

then i wondered if there were any residential properties in the outer suburbs of london that had decent sized back and front yards, and whether many houses had pools. i did not see any swimming pools after half an hour of aerial inspection, and i gave up.

then i decided to compare the aerial visual aesthetics of "nice" suburbs of sydney to "nice" suburbs of london, and there was no comparison in my mind.

here is an aerial shot of what i reaearched to be the nicest suburb in london (oxshott in surrey)
