I vote for Joan.

Joan the Cone.

:bounce:

Yes, I bet you all thought it was a boy cone, didn't you? Well, you're wrong. Girl cones can have AS too, you know.

Edit: maybe we should start an online petition for a website called ConeBook, so the cones won't be lonely any more.

Edit again: TPP, I think it would be nice if you posted pics of all three (or is it now four?) cones in this thread, just to keep us up-to-date and help us in the naming process. :)

Here is the one that started everything off. I found this cone near the side of a small river last Thursday (the one before yesterday).

Image

This is the second one, which I found yesterday. I could only upload as a thumbnail as the embed option for some reason doesn't work for this pic.

I returned to the scene of the first cone this morning, and found two, but did not photograph the new cone. The first one had somehow relocated to the centre of the river, and the second one (it looked slightly different so it can't have been the first) was a few metres upstream near the edge.

Image

This is a cone I found this afternoon, and it is smiling. It is also my avatar picture, but in the likely event I change it again at some point, here it is to stay! :)
-Also only works as a thumbnail :?

Just to let you all know as well, the website -www.conebook.com- has not yet been taken ;)
What if cones could take over the world? 8O
As soon as I find another cone I will place it on my head as promised, and take a picture :)

If I may, I'd like to steer the topic towards something I'm sure everyone enjoys - a nice bit of maths...

Image

These are the shapes you get if you intersect a cone with a plane at various angles. The ellipse always surprises me - I mean you'd expect some sort of roundish blobby shape, but not necessarily a perfect symmetrical ellipse.

What also interesting (?) is that these 4 shapes ("conic sections") are also the precise paths that an object can take when orbiting another under gravity.

Hmm, did you say you've got 4 cones now? Do you happen to have a good saw? Hey, just asking!

Another thing that's interesting is that the cone-headed people look like eggs.

WoodenBoy, where's my egg?

Ahh, I'm afraid I ate your egg. If it's any consolation, it was really tasty. :D

Well, today I found another cone, and, well...it attacked me.

Image

They are bigger - and heavier - than they seem!

I mean I tried to fight it off but at the point where the picture was taken it had totally possessed me. Luckily with the help of the photographer we managed to pull it off and chase it down the road.
