Jesus, that's massively unprofessional of any tattoo studio to behave that way to a client. Unless otherwise specified they can't just ignore what their customers are asking for. There has to be some consultation involved so they can make any and all adjustments needed for the final design. Makes me glad I made sure to double check things with my artist when I got my tattoo! Hope everything goes smoothly for you from here.
That's what the second artist said. She was familiar with the original studio and both her and the other artist in the shop said they had heard nothing but bad news about them. These days, you cannot just abuse your customers like that, they'll
spam bad reviews about your business all over the internet, and that's after they've given their business to someone else. And with tattoo studios, one bad review can cost you a LOT by bad word of mouth. No one wants to put that kind of faith in a studio with irate customers trashing their reputation. I have had some pretty dodgy interactions with tattoo / piercing studios in the past but this was by far the worst.
What s**ts me is that I often can't tell where my verbal communication skills were so poor it
was actually my fault, and where others are just trying to blame me for their own ineptitude. But I definitely specified the configuration of the shapes in the piece,
in writing, and he still accused me of changing my mind and now wanting something completely different. I am certain that is not what happened. Ergo, their fault, not mine.
Especially as I was willing to go ahead if the artist would actually
work with me and find a way to fit the designs he had done into the specifications of what I wanted, but he
refused. He wouldn't even tweak things to try and fit in with my requests. Which the second studio was able to do perfectly fine in about 10 minutes.
I just took the patch off, washed ink / blood off and put ointment on it, and so far the piece is looking
awesome.I am
so glad I am not the kind of person who is easy to intimidate, otherwise I may have gone ahead with his designs under pressure and been unhappy with the result. So yeah, I think it might be smoother with the second studio. Ideally I'd like all of the piece done by the same person for consistency in style, and I think the second artist might be the one. She was very cool with me, giving me all her work days and times so I could ask for her, took progress pictures and kept all the reference material I gave her for designing when I start on the next session.
Thanks so much for letting me tattoo-rant.
