when they say "about" it sounds somewhat nautical to me.

LOL. Okay.. yes, it sounds like "a boat" to outsiders because of Canadian Raising. I actually tried to stop saying it that way but it was impossible to lose.

is it my imagination, or are there parts of Canada where they say "aboot"? as well?

No. All Canadians say "about" - just with a diphthong. Again, only to an "outsider" does it sound "nautical" or like "foot wear".

I mentioned before that I sound British or Polish, I was just asking what you thought about at?

i truthfully would not know what to think of it unless i heard it with my own ears. it is doubtless interesting that you would have a non-american accent of that type without having lived in those places. the actress kathleen turner also has an interesting mixed accent but from having moved about much during her youth.

Sorry, there just simply isn't a way to put my voice on here for you to hear. :( But ya it's weird, I have been told I sound like that, but I have never been to either of those countries. Maybe it's just a faux accent? Like I sound that way, but it is not "genuine"?

it only matters if it is genuine to you and you alone. if it is, then there is nothing faux about it.

Thank you! :o That makes me feel better about my accents "authenticity".

...I think I am fairly " WASP/East Coast "-sounding , in American terms - and DO tend to pronounce " R "s .

I have a New Zealand accent and it seems that everyone I know from outside New Zealand loves it to pieces.
