LOL. Okay.. yes, it sounds like "a boat" to outsiders because of Canadian Raising. I actually tried to stop saying it that way but it was impossible to lose.

No. All Canadians say "about" - just with a diphthong. Again, only to an "outsider" does it sound "nautical" or like "foot wear".

i truthfully would not know what to think of it unless i heard it with my own ears. it is doubtless interesting that you would have a non-american accent of that type without having lived in those places. the actress kathleen turner also has an interesting mixed accent but from having moved about much during her youth.

But ya it's weird, I have been told I sound like that, but I have never been to either of those countries. Maybe it's just a faux accent? Like I sound that way, but it is not "genuine"?

it only matters if it is genuine to you and you alone. if it is, then there is nothing faux about it.
