After Hurricane Irma, I decided to take advantage of all the downed oak trees by learning how to cultivate edible mushrooms. I purchased shiitake plugs and a core driller and went at it. I was thrilled to get a huge fruiting of mushrooms. The first was a few weeks ago and now an ever bigger fruiting.

Unfortunately, those are not shiitake mushrooms. Fortunately, I knew enough to check it before eating them. The real killer is that the spore print is rusty brown and all shiitake spores are white.

I found some cool little cup fungi growing on the deck railing of our cabin when we were in Arkansas a few weeks ago, but now the phone I used to take pictures of them won't take a charge, so I'm waiting to get a new one. If I can get the pictures transferred over to the new phone, I'll share them then. I'm posting now so I know I'll be able to find this thread fairly readily.

I finally have the pictures.

And here's a less good picture, but this one had something white on top of it. I don't know if it's part of the fungus, or something else growing on top of it.

And my mom found these while walking my dog yesterday.

Is it better now? The ones before showed up for me, so I don't know if they're still showing up as broken links.
