I dreamed I was in a house of two or three stories with my friend. We were supposed to be there, for whatever reason; I was under the impression that one or both of us lived there. There were bats encroaching, and we were concerned because rabies was a problem in the area.
Somehow it came to be that we had two bat eggs in our house. As we watched with trepidation, the first one hatched, and out came a tiny boy bat. My friend took him in his hands and crushed his tiny skull.
Then the next began to hatch, and out came a larger, but still small, girl bat. My friend held her in his hands and I tried to help to still her. She was softer than anything can be. As she thrashed and tried to bite, increasing our fear of disease, he tried to crush her skull as he had the other, but it was harder and would not give. I broke a pair of chopsticks to place between her teeth to stop her spreading any potential infection, but struggled, drawing blood from the little bat's mouth. All the while, my friend tried to crush her, but could not. I suggested that we should throw her outside. I opened the door to the deck and he threw the bat outside as I quickly shut the door. Immediately, her size quadrupled, and I watched as her massive fur-covered wings flew her to the second story, where she attached to the window screen and started to attack her way back in. I was sad, as I knew she couldn't bear to leave, so attached to us and our home, though we tried to kill her and cast her out.
