I'm glad about that

This evening I've had two cans of Theakston Old Peculier, one can of Hobgoblin Ruby Beer (one pint), one bottle of McEwan's Champion Ale (7.3%), and I'm still not the slightest bit tipsy. It never used to be like this... :? :|

Are you on medication

You don't need to say obviously but I only asked because I was put on medication once and it completely stopped the affects of alcohol

I hated it

I'm on a couple of blood pressure medications, but I don't think they have much interaction with the booze, at least in the way you suggested. I think that I've just built up more tolerance for the stuff over the years. Hmmm....

That's pretty common in people who drink regularly.

I can drink gin and diet tonic all day and night without getting drunk. I'd say I'm getting through about half a litre of gin a day at the moment.

Doesn't it start to give you acid reflux after awhile?

I find if I drink a few drinks a few days in a row I've got too much acid reflux to not take at least a few days off.

I'm getting into some Baileys this evening. I was going to do a bit more today before sitting down, relaxing, and gettin my drink on, but I'm tired and a bit overwhelmed and think it's time for me to get my mellow on. I am at peace with this.

On the gin and tonic again this afternoon. I wake up and think I'm not going to drink today but it just creeps up on me.

I remember when I couldn't pass a pub without having hot sweats

The last pub I went in was a Wetherspoons opposite the Jobcentre in Leigh when I got there a bit early for my appointment. About 15 months ago when I was on the Guinness. Just drink at home now: Gin and diet tonic. Cheaper and you can't often get diet tonic in pubs plus it's more expensive.

Seriously, this probably won't get me many more friends, but for some reason the God I don't bother worshipping was kind enough to not have given me an addictive personality. Soon after I turned 17 and beer was cheap, I got drunk in bars and elsewhere quite regularly. I still drink a bit. I was also able to take up and quit smoking more or less at will, typically as a function of whether the person I was dating was a smoker. Luckily drugs didn't seem to agree with me, or things might have gone otherwise. Like many "high functioning" undiagnosed autistics, I was for sure into the self-medication.

What I have learned is that there's no advice you can give someone who struggles with alcohol that they haven't already been given a hundred times. But some empathy never hurts.

On the gin and diet tonic again today. Got more delivered from Asda earlier. Managed to hold off the drinking until about 14.00 and didn't drink last night.
