Just think of it this way, Isabella: once you complete your onerous tasks, you can retreat back into the World of Bronte.

If Home Depot refuses to take it back, send me the bill :P

That's pretty much how I felt in high school LOL.....counter to the "counter-cultural" folk. I was the "outcast" from the viewpoint of the outcasts. In sum, I was pretty square.

You truly must investigate the Island of Misfit Toys.
Perhaps you're the train with square wheels. I'm the doll who looks fine on the outside, but no one wants her. Either that, or I'm the spotted elephant: too many marks in space and time.

If you mess with the Spotted Elephant, she might fell a few trees in front of you :P Seriously....I know you have much virtue, despite the Cauldron underneath.

It's a mighty jolting experience to be a train with square wheels. Bad on the Sensorium. Perhaps this is why I've played the avoidance game throughout my life.

1. I once counted every resident of Creedmoor State Hospital

2. I walked about 6 miles home sometimes during my tenure with the 1980 Census, due to a transit strike.

3. I was one of those who had to carry sneakers (trainers) to work. The 1980 transit strike in NYC started the trend towards people carrying sneakers to work, while still wearing dress shoes.

I'm out at my social experiment, but I think yours is 3. Perhaps you wore sneakers anyway.

Yep. Every day was "casual Friday" as an enumerator for the Census.....

How is everything going?

In 1986:

1. I went around with five cats in a train, seeking to find a "good home" for them. My landlord said I can only have one.

2. This woman tried to put a spell on me. We were lovers a couple of times. She wanted me to stay with her forever, so she asked if she could cut off some of my hair in various places, and use it in a "love potion."

3. I acceded to this woman's demand that I give her $50 a week.

Unless you and she propagated a wolf pup together, you better not have been obligated to give her $50 / week.

I can't chat for quite a while. I'm breathing, though.

Nope...I was really careful :)

I'm 57, and I still don't have a child.

One day, out of the blue, she said that I must give her $50 a week. I said "no." Then she concocted the plan which I mentioned above.

She was from an island nation named St. Vincent, in the Caribbean.

I'm sure things will go famously for you today. I am sending you some Wolfman Howls and Vibes.

1. I met a person who I thought was in her 20's, like me----but later on said she was a teenager. I had her call her parents. She was mad at me----but even in my 20's, I realized that people under 18 should still be with their parents.

2. I met a person in her 40's on the train when I was about 25. She was from a Caribbean island. She wanted to marry me.

3. When I was about 22, I met this woman in a video game arcade. She took me to her apartment. She had packages of tampons very visible. I ran the heck out of there. Probably, I was too squeamish.

Lol. I just saw this post (sorry) -- you're always so funny :)

My goodness you seem to be a proverbial chick-magnet. You meet so many women on the train!

I'll say 2 because I usually do, but they're all good.

I did meet this person---but she didn't want to marry me. All she wanted after a month or so was $50 a week LOL.

She wasn't a bad person; she just didn't get paid enough on her job.

What I didn't like was that she wouldn't hold my hands in the street---she was probably worried about the racial component.

1. I dated the mother of my supervisor at work.

2. I first met her when I escorted the sister of the supervisor to a guitar store.

3. The supervisor approved of the match wholeheartedly from the beginning.

Assuming all of this dating occurred prior to your marriage, you were quite young. Either your supervisor was equally young (therefore, older mother), or your supervisor was older than you (even older mother) ... so they likely weren't too pleased at the arrangement.

(What I mean is, chances are your supervisor wasn't younger than you were if you were young, yourself).

(There's a syllogism for you...)

The Lie is #3. My supervisor didn't approve at first----but she warmed up to it.

To be honest, I sort of "enabled" her to become my supervisor by training her. She relied on me quite a bit at first. I should have been more ambitious---but I wasn't.

Her mother was quite a bit older than me. I was attracted by her hair, actually. I called it "palm tree hair." She was from Trinidad, as is my supervisor (she's still my supervisor!) That's what got me into her--the hair. I was about 25-26; she was in her 40's. We lived with each other for a while. I learned a little bit about how to raise kids; she had three kids and a bunch of grandkids. The grandkids didn't live with her--but they were always over. The relationship was beneficial to me, for the most part, since it taught me a lot about people. Before then, I really was quite naïve, and had no idea how to relate to children at all.

That's a really sweet story. Thanks for sharing. :)

I think you know by now, Potato, that I love a lengthy chat. It's OK that you wrote so much! I'm just sorry you had such a rough go at recovery even though your health is now resolved. I've had many surgeries too. One of them had to be repaired about eight or nine times over the span of three years. It still isn't right but further surgery could risk permanent nerve damage or paralysis, so I'm not playing that game.

It's been nice chatting. I hope you have a good sleep!
Personally, I don't really see it as having been too rough -- there were so many ways things could have gone worse, and I never really had to balance the decision of leaving an issue as it is, or taking a risk of even greater issues in attempt to resolve it. In fact, I consider myself lucky in that regard.

Thanks! I hope everything went well for you today. A book would be better for your head than a wood chipper. :(

Mr. Fix It Man.....sounds like you've had quite an interesting life....contrary to your self-perception of it. You are probably too modest.
Modest? Not really sure about that. I've seen the Attack drop, but Special Attack doesn't seem to have been affected. Sorry sorry, I couldn't resist throwing in a random obscure pokemon joke. :P

I confess to knowing nothing about Pokémon—baseball cards were our Pokémon.

But you’re a cool Fixit Man.
