Could be if the only guitar I have on hand hadn't recently lost a tuning gear.

Yes. I've mostly heard them called tuning machines but I arbitrarily decided I don't like this term, so I have switched to calling them tuning gears.

Anyway, one has fallen off and refuses to be put back on (holes it screwed into grew loose), so I now have a five-string guitar. And it was night time.

. He was going in for a blood test, but he's usually used to the doctor saying when they are going to shove a needle in his arm. He was waiting for her to say when she was going to do it and then got surprised when she just shoved it into his arm without warning
