This story (first one listed below) downplays how often stuff like this happens. just this last spring several children died from swimming in a bacteria filled lake. a couple of the articles are of the same incidents but by different news publishers. with more or less information in them.

Or, they don't, but what I've said in the thread is ignored by the other participants. I'm mostly probably being over-sensitive, but it makes me worry that everything I say is boring, obvious and utterly pointless.

I suppose most of us have days like that though.

But don't take it personnally. It is like that for most everyone. It is the standard operating procedure here for people to ignor most responses. That this is a Autistic forum has something to do with it. It's more like a Bulletin Board then Chat or Conversational forum.

I have the same feeling that my threads are useless because no one follow up. But if I put myself into others shoes ( well this is hard for me), I cant really follow up other peoples's thread. I don't find it boring, but just lack of ideas to feed it with.

You are sort of neurotypical but shows signs of autism. You probably enjoy intellectual activities more than socializing or maybe you enjoy socializing, but you aren't genius at it. You could be autistic, but may not be.

Truly, just take a look at the corrupt a wish thread, many do not bother to look or give much thought about the wishes made, they just respond with what ever then make their own silly wish. I like it when people put thought into them, but many don't.

It's an odd thing to get used to. You do see it to an extent on NT forums, but it seems very concentrated here. It is frustrating to post a thought out reply to someone and then recieve no response, and especially when it feels like that is occurring 80-90% of the time. Some I attribute to wariness of strangers (and the subjects being rather personnel), and some possibly a greater tendency towards self-absorption among autistics. Some may be just the modern coomunication style of the internet, that is to pick and choose who you wish to reply to and ignor those you don't.

Perhaps some, but you also have to take into consideration the cultural differences, there are many here from all around the world, and many may not know how to respond because of not knowing whats considered normal or not, as well as what is their own norm from their part of the world. some of the things people may want to talk about or debate or whine about may be so common to them its not worth mentioning, or those things just may not apply in their part of the world so they have little to no experience in them. or what ever. people are people, but one thing is vary true about autistics, many are or do frequently get self absorbed or narrow of vision, not all, but more common amongst autistic then others.

Yep, that's me;
Self-absorbed as well as frequently not knowing how to respond appropriately.

The cultural differences are hard to get a grasp on. Mainly because rarely do you get the feedback that informs you about them. Though I much prefer an international forum because of those differences which are interesting and help me to see different perspectives. Even with all our Media (at least in those countries where it is relatively free) growing up and remaining in one country gives most a very limited understanding of people at large.

I am very self-absorbed as well, and I have come to associate it with my Aspie side. Very much the lone wolf type, except with a small group of those closest to me. Being in larger groups especially among people I do not know or know only a little is hardly ever a pleasent experience for me, and often something I dread. I also seem to need an unually large ammount of time to myself, to do my work, chores or persue my interest. Yet to be alone too much is miserable. My wife is almost the opposite, being outgoing and liking to be around people a lot, so it has been a difference between us needing continual attention to work out fairly.

On a side-note, I never had pets while in the military, but have since gotten some small dogs and find they are good companions and do not intrude much on that inner solitude.

Don't feel bad. Many posts here unconnected, removed or just incomprehensible.

I'm just nervous and agitated to be leaving for college this Saturday. I'm going to be living in a dorm pretty far from home. Also, the Medic from the game Team Fortress 2 (the character whose picture I just posted) is just plain handsome. :lol:
