My mother, who is 88, is having a cardioversion procedure today, to shock her heart back to a proper rhythm. It's supposed to be a safe procedure, but it still makes me anxious.

Just a thought I had. If life ahead is really full of surprises and uncertainties, then it's not for me.

People say that I will desensitize but the more I go through this torture, the worse I feel about myself, about people, and about life in general.

I cried so much today.

When I continually run round and round through the same maze - and everything feels predetermined - I have to fight a secret desire to fail in every way I've told myself I never could and run away. I never admit that to anyone, even when I'm at my worst moments.

:) Thanks Taupey and anna-banana-, she is fine but the procedure did not work. They will have to go back to fiddling with her meds. That wasn't working so well before which is why they were going to try the cardioversion. She has been in excellent health until recently and even went to water aerobics three times a week. She's still mentally sharp but easily confused lately. We all have to adjust to the realization that she's an old lady. It's easy to forget, she's 88 and still hasn't gone gray. 8O
