This is a question for cat lovers.

Has your kitty ever gone missing when you want to take it to the doc? (And you have taken pains to not give it any clues?)
This seems to be fairly common for kitties.
I'd just like people to say whether they have experienced this???

Yes this has happened. We've had to cancel vet appointments. I don't know if she figured it out somehow or just happened to take an extended stroll/nap somewhere on those days.

Thanks, I hope to collect these anecdotes, along with theories of how this happens. (The Missus' theory is that we exude a stress pheromone that kitty can pick up on.)
They have you phones tapped and listen for the word vet and hide. :)

Hadn't thought of that....

I had to rehome my large spider because she had burrowed beneath both her hides to the extent that the structure she had created out of the hides and the substrate was in imminent danger of collapsing - it was all held together with web :D. It's also very dry and so doesn't support well. I keep it dry because this species is native to desertish regions and I live very close to the sea so keeping humidity low rather than high is the issue for me (it's totally under control by the way, this is a happy spider so far as I can tell). If she'd gone much further she could have easily gotten squished as one of the hides was rather heavy.

SO, I took the heavy hide out so she can burrow as much as she likes without being squashed. Experience has taught me that this particular species of tarantula likes to burrow into the side of a hill or ramp; they almost always will rearrange their substrate that way if there is enough of it. So, I did it for her and covered the smaller hide in substrate. What you can see in the picture is the half-pipe shaped hide made from wood which is covered in substrate. She has webbed all around as you can see in the picture. The webs actually extend to about 25cm away from the hide. She uses them, amongst other things, to help detect prey; tarantulas mostly have poor vision and usually hunt by detecting vibrations so she sits and waits at the entrance to her lair (which is what she is doing in this photograph) and if an insect happens to crawl across the webs she will run over to grab it. Of course in captivity that only happens when I make it happen :p

This is a thumbnail so you can click to see a big version. Click again to see a *really* big version :) In the really big version you can see the web and her hairs in really nice detail :)

Dawwww :(

Piggies!! I used to have long haired ones like that (sans the whirl on the head though). It was impossible to keep their coats unmatted. The hair on them was so long it trailed behind them!

I don't have a picture of her right now, but I have an albino snow corn snake, named Deimos.
My best friend who lives in the apartment across the hall from me has a corn snake too, named Phobos, who we've nicknamed trousers because he has a tendency to hide in the pocket of her pants.

Just some recent pics of our new rescue dog Scarlett

Scarlett is the little Hover-Dog flying by at lower right. The other is our older dog Momo. They just turned 1 and 3 respectively.

He looks big. I think he's probably bigger then either of my dogs! I used to call my first dog 'My Special', 'Sweetie' and maybe a dozen other terms. But since we got Scarlett I now call them Big Special and Little Special, Big Sweetie & Little Sweetie, etc

Yeah, he's big and fat and have big eyes. Many people told me he looks like a dog.
Sometimes he comes near me and stares at me for an hour. If I am sad or I cry, he comes and bite me. And doesn't let me until I stop
Also he replies when I talk with him and listen carefully to what I say. He's a very special tomcat and I love him very much.

Photobucket deleted all my photos, this was the only one there, hmm.. This picture shows a rescue (Embla) and my main man Tesla. The rescue went back to the shelter, long story. Tesla is still awesome :)

Wow, Scarlett looks like a lot of fun. Is she a rat, Roosevelt, Jack Russel, or something else?

Soldiers are sausages, right?
I'm in America, we don't have too much slang for our food.
But eggs and sausages sound so good right now......
