what sort of volunteering do you do?
I'm a part of a mobile church. Basically a building is rented for the weekend, I help set up the equipment alongside several other volunteers, and when all the events have taken place, pack everything up to be taken to a central location for storage until the following weekend. This has been how I've spent my weekends for nearly the past 3 years.
As of a few months ago though, I decided to join a secondary team used on certain occasions that is responsible for handing out free stuff pertaining to the specific event (this past Sunday along with the next 3 has been about handing out drinks and popcorn to the guests). It was something I pushed myself into to get accustomed to being around strangers, and hopefully not be too awkward around them.
Not sure how well it's worked, but I haven't really received any complaints. It's just... I've made a few careless mistakes that were so easily preventable, which are nagging at me. Other people just seem leaps and bounds ahead in sociability.
other people are leaps and bounds ahead of me socially, too. you are doing useful stuff. it's good to learn from our mistakes so as not to repeat them. after that, talk back to the voice that is beating you up. tell it you've learned your lesson and don't need that voice anymore.
