just a note from an audio nerd for other audio nerds, it is a persistent historical rumor that none other than Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville [inventor of the phonautograph] recorded ol' Abe in the white house with his new invention, the phonautograph which could record [but not play back] audio.

Not an audio nerd, but I am a history buff. Interesting, but what good is recording if you can't play back?
