I agreed with getting rid of Little Britain - didn't know about the racism but the homophobia and ableism and transphobia didn't sit right with me.

But Fawlty Towers?

We won't be able to make fun of anything at all or have any comedy lol.

I read that the channel that took down the one episode yestersay was the only channel that were still showing the original version of it, which contained the N word. All other channels showing it already took that down years ago and replaced it with a 'clean' version. This channel is expected to put the clean version back as a replacement.

Ah ok that makes sense.

That's what I've heard today but at first they said episode name and not why, the German one lol.

My auntie and (German) uncle got married and my granddad made a speech based on it and everyone found it funny. Including my uncle and his parents. So that would be clutching at straws.

I think it's sad that people won't understand when a character is satirical and not meant to be taken as doing the right thing. But then, in this day and age there's no real place for the n word and other slurs, even in that.

Little Britain made me a bit ableist tbh. I thought all people who needed wheelchairs couldn't walk at all or were 'fakers'. Which is ridiculous considering my own mum needed one for long walks (eg going to the local shop) for a while after her op.

I think part of the problem with Little Britain was that it tried to mock the world-view of the typical Daily Mail reader* through deadpan sketches that showed all their prejudices as literally true. Hence the title. A hefty proportion of the viewers didn't get the joke, and were happy to laugh along at "Disabled Guy Who's Actually Just Lazy," "Transvestites Are Grotesque And Deluded" and so on in the spirit of mocking those despised minorities. Didn't help that the writing really wasn't strong enough to handle any level of ambiguity whatsoever. (I didn't watch it much at the time- from the look of the characters I was expecting a follow-up of "League of Gentlemen," and was bitterly disappointed.) When your satire is conveying to people the exact opposite message to the one you intended, that's a major own-goal.

*The nearest British equivalent to a MAGA-hat.

Ironic that just as Bozza was blathering about BLM protests being "hijacked by extremists" (with little or no evidence for that, in Britain at least,) some literal goose-stepping Nazis turned up to "defend" his beloved Churchill.

And some politicians have had the gall to go down the 'both sides' route when this weekends lot went there with only violence in mind and managed to attack the police on mass, urinate on a monument and literally throw nazi salutes

and they wonder why people despair at politicians

So... my only Rangers fan on my twitter timeline called out last week's protests cos of social distancing (fair enough honestly) but didn't call out this week's riots on the exact same grounds...

I called him out on it and he hasn't replied.

I like Wrexham now too. Us. Wrexham. St Pauli :D

Went out of my hometown for only the third time since March today. Only about half the people on the trams were wearing facemasks.

I started going to work by bus this week. The total number of other passengers I've seen is too small to draw any statistically valid conclusions yet. Especially as one guy kept taking his mask off when he thought his carer wasn't looking. Some of the drivers have this odd habit of taking their masks off to talk to other drivers when they meet up at the end of the line. I don't think they quite get the point.

A nice midnight snack of crumpets and scrambled eggs - yum.

Does anyone know if the post is getting back to normal yet?

I have a card to post and wondered if it will be there on time.

The post in my part of the country has been working fairly well throughout. I'm buying a lot of stuff on Ebay, and it's arriving pretty much on time. I read recently that they were suspending Saturday deliveries, but I received mail last Saturday.

Thank you.

I guess I have no excuse for not posting a card.
