Excellent! I am so happy for you!
I spent the entire morning working in the garden. We are just getting the scent of orange blossoms on the breeze. I harvested my first ever sunflower seeds. The seeds are plumper and sweeter than the ones I have had from the store. I am growing the sunflowers mostly for the birds.
I do miss rhubarb. It is too warm here for it to grow.
Yeah, it is fussy about location: and soil type!
‘Luckily’ our garden is on a former factory site: so we had no choice but to choose our soil and make it ourselves
Still a bit gritty for my taste, but we’re two years past the point were everything we plant out dies for want of water & nutrients
Haven’t managed to get sunflowers to work here yet: they flower ok, if a touch late, but then the autumn damp does for the seeds before they’ve properly dried.
Orange blossom is lovely scent: looking forward to ours when the season comes round.

I have big soil problems too. Sand mostly. Had it tested and there are zero nutrients in it. Zero. So I have been trying to improve the soil, but its been more difficult than I anticipated.
What I read about sunflowers is when the back of the head turns yellow, cut it off about 6 inches below the head and hang it upside down inside to dry. I'm not doing that because I want the birds to eat them, but no takers so far.
