How do you feel about smilies? Do you mind using them, or do you feel they discourage people from exploring the expressive resources of language?

I was quite reluctant to use them at first but they're sometimes a good extension or can make something a bit more clear. My kind of humour can easily be misread and maybe they help a bit so some don't feel offended. Hopefully. I'm not here to offend.

From the ones you can use here, which one you think is the nicest? Or funniest.... :drunken:

Yep, me too. Without a face....?

Emphasizing maybe? :?:

Sorry.

Without looking it up.... can you estimate how many countries are there on this planet?
(I say 120 but ?)

>Edit<.... Ok, I looked it up. So....
How many countries are there on this planet?

I think it's roughly 180.

without looking it up, how many cities with a population greater than 20 million are there?

(I'm guessing 20)

(edit: but, having checked it, even by the most generous estimates I'm way off)

:?: WTF? Don't know what to say....I don't know the answer.

Cities with more than 20 million people. 20 million.... Jeee. Probably New York, LA, Bombay, one or two Chinese.... I think you're too high probably so I'll say 8, maybe less. And that's a honest estimate.

How many inhabitants does the city/village count where you live?

(the most generous estimate I could find said 7, & that's not really for city, just continuous urban sprawl.

Where I live there is, I think, 800 people.

Do you prefer the city or the country?

In cities people are maybe a bit more open minded for a bit of oddness plus I don't drive a car and thus need a train station. On the other hand the peace and quiet you can find in the country is nice. I also like nature and animals (farm-).

I chose the city. (or something in between)

Is it possible to wash my sweaters made out of wool in the machine? Or must it be done by hand?

I you put it on a low enough setting you might get away with it, but it's risky.

Is there any gadget or labour saving device that doesn't exist that you wish they'd hurry up & invent?

I want a computer screen that I can just grab at a corner & resize, as easily as I resize windows on the screen - & if it laughed at my jokes, that'd be great too.

Are you good at giving things up?

I think you should make the gnocchi (but I would probably order the pizza).

Do you prefer going to the cinema with friends or on your own?
