^ You need to just sit in your bunderpants and do nothing - works for me

Don't try and build a trampoline though as it's like being in a sauna

I daren't turn on my gas central heating. It's thirty years old and hasn't been serviced since about 2002, and I'm scared of blowing up the house.

I lived in one house where the central heating broke down every January, regular as clockwork. The first time this happened, the gasfitter found the boiler (which wasn't easy, as it was hidden behind the gas fire) and remarked: "They haven't made these things since ten years before I was born."

Hmmmm....well at least if it was breaking down regularly then it was being maintained in a sense, however daft that sounds.

I've become increasingly paranoid about the whole idea of gas for heating, cooking etc. I really feel it's like having a bomb in your house. A guy who lived less than half a mile away from me blew his house up a few years ago, and half the buildings in the street had to be demolished and rebuilt.

Gas heating may well be only half the price of electric as far as the basic bills are concerned, but when you consider all the things that can and do go wrong, the repair bills must at least cancel out any savings. Regular boiler breakdowns, water leaks, gas leaks, pump failures, air locks....

Did you know?

...most homes in the UK do not have built-in air-conditioning.

...most UK schools have required uniforms.

...tipping in restaurants isn't such a big trend like it is in the US.

...the national health care is free in the UK, unless you can afford to go private.

... Halloween isn't such a big deal in the UK. Very few kids go trick or treating.

...most houses do not have basements, unless they are really old buildings, but even then very few people use their basements and some are even blocked off.

...not having a boyfriend or a girlfriend during your teenage years isn't such a big deal, the quantity of your friend circle is a big deal.

...most standard houses in the UK aren't as big as the standard houses in the US.

...some, in fact, a lot of British people dislike the royals because of how pampered and privileged they are. (A lot of other countries think that all us British worship the royals).

...most of us use electric kettles instead of a kettle that you put on the hob.

...the UK does not have drive-ins to movies (not that I've ever seen anyway).

I'm always amazed as well by the outdated opinions many foreigners have about modern Britain. The last person to be interviewed in the clip below was obviously mixing us up with the Germans.

Anyone got an older fridge, or anything with a dial showing the temp with numbers? Are there dot, dot, dots at one end? are the dots at the low number end or the high number end?

My fridge is melting and I don't want to put it up one in case I'm actually turning it off as it's so old the numbers aren't there any more. It's melting the ice box all over my food. Soggy chocolate :( help!.

^ Does your fridge have a light , it should turn off if you turn the dial all the way in one direction

The light didn't go off but the engine noise stopped so I turned it back but the noise hasn't started again :( I don't think it liked that. I'm going to tell it you told me to do that and beg it to start up again.
