I learned how to defeat ptsd mental blocks* before they happen. At least, I did it twice today.

*that mind-blank/freeze when certain triggers happen.

Not to watch anything from TV Tropes' Nightmare Fuel page in the middle of the night. I just saw a PSA by Unicef that showed the Smurfs' village getting bombed, and it showed their dead bodies and Baby Smurf crying at the end.

:smurf: :skull: 8-O

The really freaky thing is that Smurfs creator Peyo's family approved of it. But my childhood has been brutalized and I am seriously afraid to sleep now.

^i like the "other" section of that page.

i learned that pulling 4 pages (two to account for like skipping) worth of essay out of thin air is slightly easier than i would have imagined. left feeling confident.

I'm so sorry. Would it help to think of it as canon, but in an alternate universe?

Yes, it does help to not think it's canon somewhat, but the fact that the animation is just like the old cartoon and it's not a Robot Chicken parody makes it much more disturbing. And the funny thing thing is I was avoiding clicking the links to the other PSA's but for some reason didn't think I'd mind the Smurfs one.

I think in my opinion, the PSA's in the UK are more disturbing. They are known as Public Information Films (PIF) there. Perhaps it could be because of the darker tone and the fact that they are more graphic.

Take Protect and Survive, for example. They're a series of PIFs in the 70s that educate on how to deal with a nuclear attack. These were never shown initially, but are shown on YouTube. From what I understand, they had a dark, scary nature.

Apaches was probably the most disturbing of the PIFs. The one with the frisbee at the power substation was a close second.

I read today about 12% of people dream in black and white instead of color. The percentage used to be higher until the invention of color TV.

Hard to imagine other people dreaming in film noir when the colors in my dreams can get very intense and surreal. Maybe it's because I've watched a lot of Disney movies, including Fantasia and Dumbo, which look tame compared to my dreams. :)

I also read that dreaming is normal. People who don't dream generally have personality disorders. I'm pretty sure just about everyone dreams, some people just don't remember theirs.

I learned from a news article about why some people (including me) with dark hair have orange or brown beards. Interesting stuff.

One of the cats at the animal shelter I volunteer in, Dortmunder, is named after a brand of beer I didn't know about until just today. However, he is not the first cat I know to have an alcoholic namesake. My cat Sammy's full name is Samuel Adams.

I visited the inpatient ward at the new psych hospital(as a visitor) and learned it is possible to build a hospital that is not a depressing environment, a building that actually promotes mental wellbeing as opposed to a medival dungeon.
