I used to want the Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots by Marx....then again, I wanted ANYTHING by Marx!

I remember when the Polaroid Swinger was the hippest thing in town (around 1967). I started writing around that time. There's a sample of my writing on the directions for the use of that camera. I couldn't write in a straight line at all!

I also remember those hat bags. They were either circular or oval in shape. Many elegant women used to carry them in the 1960s.

My older brother had a bolo tie. He told me NEVER to touch them. I guess it was so kind of hip thing, too!

Whenever you told your mommy on someone in the 1960s, you were called a "rat fink."

I'm sure I saw a picture of a young woman with a circular hatbag and inside was a record player. The bag was just slightly greater in diameter than an LP. There was no electrical amplification, it was just acoustic.

The book said these machines were popular with young women but I haven't been able to find any information on the web. Were these a popular alternative to transistor radios?

I loved the Marbles, also. I loved to look at their colors and compare their sizes.

Yeah, I loved the colors and sizes, as well; I just never got into playing the game.

I agree. I never got into the game either. I forgot to mention that I also liked the "click" sound the marbles made when they collided. Fond memories :D

Oh, yeah----I totally LOVED that noise, as well!! I used to love just banging them into each----that's how I played, with them!!

OMG, that's so funny----I was just coming on here, to say "Jacks"! ! LOL

~~~~~~~~~~~
@Britte: How ya doin'? Yeah, Ande's Mints are still in existence----but, you made me think of something else, with your bubble gum one.....
Bazooka Bubble Gum, with the little cartoon in it.
Hi Campin' Cat! I hadn't realized you said hello, so, I'm a bit late in responding. I'm well, thank you. : ) How are you doing? I hope, great!!
Ha, I actually wrote 'Bazooka, with the comics enclosed', but, since I still come across those, at various shops, small markets, etc., I wasn't sure if it would qualify to mention within this topic (Based on the Title/Description), so I deleted, prior to submitting my post (I think). Anyway, I love the flavor of Bazooka. I also used to like the flavor of Bubble Yum, although, not nearly as much as the gum inside the packs of baseball cards... or Bazooka, for that matter. I think Bubble Yum came out when I was in jr high school, or perhaps high school, in about the late 70's/early 80's. Yikes, I'm rambling. :skull: :mrgreen:
Oh, GOOD, I'm glad you're well----I'm doing, alright!!
I noticed you changed your avatar----I like the colors.....
Oh, yeah, you're right----Bazooka DOESN'T qualify for this thread, then----I had no idea, it was still being sold!!
Oh, me TOO!! Did you ever play Marbles? I didn't like those as much, as Jacks----I played Jacks, ALOT!!
Oh, does anybody remember Jaw Breakers and / or Rock Candy?
Oh, I remember another one..... Does anybody remember when you went to a corner store, and they had pickled onions on the counter? My sister used to eat those, like apples!! EWWWW!!
I loved playing jacks! I still do!
I remember those gigantic jaw breakers that you'd have to work on, for about a month, just to get it small enough, to fit into your mouth. I had no desire for them, however, I'd see various kids licking on the same jawbreakers, day-in and day-out. And, I do remember rock candy. I think I may have come across some, in recent years, in fact. :flower:
Oops----well then, that's ANOTHER one, that doesn't qualify for this thread!!
Love that flower!! (wink)
I stole some candy from the corner store, when I was a kid----and, I felt so sick to my stomach (guilty), that, when I got to school, I had to give it all away, because I didn't want to be associated with the horrible thing, I did.
What about TV shows?
Did anybody watch "Lost in Space"? ("Danger, Will Robinson----DANGER!!")
.....or, "Dragnet"? ("Just the facts, ma'am.")
Well CC, since you are the OP for this thread, we can't say you are hijacking it to a slightly different interest.
When I think of Old TV shows, I have to think which ones were only black and white. How about The Rifleman, or Twilight Zone?
I've seen some of the candies I remember as a kid like Willy Wonka's Bottle Caps that I thought they'd stopped making for good, but I figure they're not as good as when they were back then. Either because they don't use the same ingredients, or because like all adults I now have fewer taste buds, which is why I can drink coffee without feeling pukey from the bitter taste- as long as it's got plenty of milk and and three teaspoons of sugar. :lol:
I remember eating those packets of powdered candy that came with a candy stick that you licked and dipped into it. They used to come in two double packets of different flavors, and hopefully came with two sticks so sharing would be less unsanitary. Although you and another kid might share both flavors, so eww. Not getting sick on such a sugary product was something of a miracle, ha ha. I've seen those packets at the dollar store but they come with something that's more of a lollipop than a stick and I think the flavors are different.
"The Rifleman" had great scripts. I didn't understand them fully when I was a little kid watching it.
Yep....Dragnet, of course!
Anybody remember "Ben Casey"--about a young neurosurgeon?
RetroGamer: I have vague memories of those bags/record players. I don't think they worked well. And they seemed to play only 45s (singles)
I remember "Ben Casey" because its introduction scared me. It had medieval symbols for "man," "water," "medicine," etc.
I was also scared of the Gerber Baby. It looked like Death to me.
I found out that there *are* modern tricycles for adults. I even saw one yesterday at Canadian tire. They have baskets in the back for carrying stuff. I have extra money saved up and I really want to get one, but I'll need help getting it home. Also I'm worried my mother will say all kinds of discouraging things to me. Okay mom if you'd rather keep driving me everywhere, then sure.
Of course I've thought about putting a lock on it to keep it from getting stolen, getting a helmet and maybe a bike pump. And I'll have to try riding it short distances at first. And I probably won't be able to use it much in the winter. All the more reason I should get one now.
Oh, yeah----I totally watched ALL of those----PLUS, I liked "Gun Smoke", "My Favorite Martian", "Big Valley" (I totally wanted to be Barbara Stanwyck, when I grew-up), "Bonanza" (I wanted to marry Hoss).....
I remember every Sunday night, when I was a little kid, we used to watch "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", and then "Ed Sullivan" (I also wanted to be just like Cher); and, we had a pot-roast for supper, and "Pineapple Upside Down Cake", for dessert; and my 6'6" uncle would come to visit, in his Triumph; and my mother and aunt used to play Scrabble; and, we, kids, would fight----EVERY SINGLE SUNDAY NIGHT! LOL
Also, does anybody remember "Peyton Place", and "Ironside"?
Oh, yeah----I remember these!! I loved, Loved, LOVED Mr. Magoo, cuz he was such a MESS, like ME!!
I was always thinking: "SOMEDAY, it won't turn-out, so badly", regarding "The Roadrunner"----silly me!! LOL
Also, as an older kid, I was really into "Scooby Doo", "The Flinstones"; and, "The Jetsons" was probably my favorite. Also, I liked "H.R. Pufnstuf"----OOO, ooo, "Captain Kangaroo", and "Romper Room" ("Tell me, tell me, tell me, WHO?")
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

@lostonearth35: I remember that candy, with the straw!!

Also, you should DEFINITELY get one of those adult tricycles----and, DEFINITELY while it's still summer!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also, does anybody remember when people used to have A job, for LIFE?
