why is there a phrase "dry as a bone"?
i do not understand. are bones somehow more unlikely to be wet than anything else?
i do not think so. i thought about that phrase when i was about 8 years old while, during a very rainy day, i was looking at the bones of a cow that died on our farm some months before. they were as wet as everything else.
