#1. You actually didn't find your grandmother's wardrobe to be in good taste.

3 is my lie. I'm sure she did have signature lipstick, I just didn't pay attention to her cosmetics.

1 and 2 are true. I wouldn't ever dress like her, and it wasn't my style at all, but I did keep the copper skirt because it reminded me of her. It's beautifully made and lined with pure silk. Size 2. Wow. I also kept some of her jewelry despite the fact I don't wear much jewelry.

She lived in LA my whole life, so I didn't know her very well. She visited us every summer for a few weeks and we went there perhaps twice a year. I lived near her for about 22 months. She liked to correct my posture and make me walk with books on my head, as if I was defective somehow. She was quite superficial in many respects, but she certainly wasn't mean.

My other grandmother:

1. Taught my father how to knit, which he in turn taught me.

2. Got pregnant on her first date with my grandfather.

3. Was an exceptional opera singer, but she never went pro.

Right. 3 is my lie. I don't know that she sang at all.

1 and 2 are true.

She wasn't an elegant person, like your other grandmother?

Well...,

1. For the few years I knew her, she was heartbroken / angry about my grandfather's disappearance and she wasn't very sociable with anyone.

2. I was afraid of her because she wore a ticking pendant (clock).

3. I lived next door to her so I saw her frequently, but she died when I was only six so I don't remember much.

4. She and my mother didn't get along and my mother was embarrassed by her.

1, 2 and 4 are true.

3 is my lie. I lived two doors away from her (until my family moved, when I was five), and she died when I was 11.

Do you feel an identification with her, somehow.

Your mother is sort of critical of you, it seems.

Was she some sort of eccentric-type person?

1. I used to think that the Moon was made out of green cheese.

2. I learned about gravity through “Spinning Wheel,” by Blood, Sweat, and Tears.

3. I still want Pluto to be a full-fledged planet.

Good morning, Wolfie.
