#2. She might share your birthdate, but not your year.

Ever see The Patty Duke Show? About “identical cousins.”

#2 is true. We were born on the same day and year. We are so opposite in terms of ... everything .... ? that it puts an end to any claims about horoscopes. I used to feel very inferior and think my parents liked her better. Everyone seemed to like her better. I've given up on talking to her because it's always a ten page brag report.

#3 is true. Even my other cousins don't know where she or her siblings ended up.

#1 is my lie. It was a little girl named Jody who chased me. She lived next door. She learned quickly too, though. 8)

Patty and Kathy were opposites in every way, too. (From Patty Duke).

Oh, sorry, I forgot to say I've never even heard of Patty Duke.

1. My "identical cousin" is exceptionally athletic and outgoing.

2. She likes to host dinner parties and redecorate her perfect house (which looks like the house from Home Alone).

3. She has a doctorate in bioengineering.

#2?

My brother is a rich guy, and an arrogant one. He lords it over people.

Sorry about your brother :(

3 is my lie. She went to Harvard Business School. I think she has an MBA but she doesn't work. She spends her days as described in 1 and 2, with her perfect husband and perfect children. Her house is very much like Home Alone.

I wouldn’t like a woman like that. How does she treat you?

We got on fairly well as children. Our families spent quite a bit of time together despite her living in Philadelphia. She was nice enough but I always felt inferior because my parents were enamoured. As an adult I went to her wedding and visited her home a few times in the 90s. By then the relationship was wearing thin. She hasn't contacted my family since the day after my father died (when she sent condolences). Strangely, I do talk to her sister and her brother / sister-in-law quite often.

I try not to let it bother me. Actions speak louder than words.

1. I've made the same wish on my birthday candles every year since I was about five years old.

2. I always have the same flavour of birthday cake.

3. I always wear "something blue" on my birthday because it's my favourite colour.

You're right! I wish I'd thought of starting a "blue" tradition but I never did. My favourite colours are charcoal grey and violet periwinkle, which is sort of blue.

1 and 2 are true.

It’s #3. I used to be known as Spike in the 90s because of the movie “Spike of Bensonhurst.”
