You weren't even able to get stimulus money because you guys are disabled? That's legit f****d up. :x

I'm sorry that you guys are treated like that and kept out of so many forms of assistance. I'd be pissed too if I worked for that long and paid into those same programs, and then got nothing for all of it. :(

Covid money was only for people who couldn't work because of Covid lockdowns, or:

they had Covid
they were caring with someone who had Covid
they were a student
they were unable to find work because of Covid
they were on pension

.... and a bunch of other categories, which all included financial loss / employment loss

I didn't have a job to lose. I didn't count.

My daughter could have received stimulus money but it would have been subtracted from her benefit money, so that she would end up losing money. It's one of those things where you have to declare new income.

So for example if she normally got 500 benefits as her maximum allowable income, but they gave her 700 Covid money, she would end up with zero (500 - 700). I heard some people say she would even owe $200 back to the government but I can't believe that's true.

Her best friend was a student taking one class online and living with her parents. Never paid taxes in her life. She started a minimum wage job for just a few hours a week and was there for about two weeks before the place was forced closed on lockdown. She was eligible for $2000/ month stimulus money for something like ten months. $20,000 tax free.

But I can sit and rotate.

There was also a mortgage and land tax relief program but it was only for people who lost their job or had Covid.

There was even money for parents, if their children were under 18 (lol).

And money for the children themselves if they were 16-18.

I couldn't win for trying.

^ The system is always rigged against poor people, including the fact that the welfare system is overly complex, freezing out poor people who have little education through no fault of their own, delaying or sometimes making them unable to apply for relevant benefits.

Yes. It's crazy.

My daughter is well-educated but can't work because of a permanent physical disability plus ASD / comorbids.

Starting her on benefits was like walking into a vortex of hell. I had no idea any system could be so poorly managed, or contain so many loopholes to hurt deserving individuals.

This is not to mention the government dude who was in charge of Covid money embezzeled something like $5,000,000 by creating hundreds of fake families and fake bank accounts to deposit payments.

Yes, thats is all very unfair. Canada I thought had a good reputation for social care.

Hey if I every win the lottery, I'll throw you a few grand. lol. (Since you're such a nice person.)

But seriously. That's is messed up. You deserve better. (No one in your position should be put through all that.)

Where are the advocates ?. If the legislation is broken, system needs changing.

The disability payment system in any country is very broken.

Predatory capitalists are completely out of touch.

Off with their heads, I say.

You told me she knew your pronouns without prompting. Why would you tell me that? To make me feel bad? You know how I know it was a lie? In the only conversation I ever had with her about you, she screwed up your pronouns.

Realising how rarely I have the opportunity to post something in "Post something that made you happy today." instead of here.

I had a meeting with my professor earlier today & my mom accused me of making it all up.

(Seriously, Mom, seriously! :x )

You once asked me to not leave you out of all our events. You think that's what happened? When you bowed out of our most public outings, there were none left to include you in, because we weren't doing the "safe" ones anymore. And when you bowed out, M stopped coming. Soon thereafter A stopped coming. R and I saw each other for a few years, but I haven't seen her in years, either.

You didn't think they were coming here to see me, did you?

I visited you in the hospital every day. Not only did you not remember that, you attributed it to someone else.
