Oh, well....your skin can also not take sun very well. I know that sometimes I will tan, or sometimes I'll just get freckles....everybody has different skin.

And I thought OSB wasn't from the US. :chin:

yes, Essex UK.

people like to be appreciated for the way they naturally are.... and it can sting a bit to hear that someone thinks, "you look great but would be even better IF ONLY..." it's kinda like people saying, "oh she'd be a real knockout if she lost a few pounds," or, "he is pretty hot but he's got too much chest hair".

she's got naturally porcelain skin, and that's just the way she looks. same as if she was born with olive skin or had freckles.... it's her natural appearance, so hearing of what you think she should improve comes across like a bit of a criticism.

You tell em! (jk, I don't think either parties meant to be mean or rude to each other).

But I'd like to ask, what do you think about when someone purposely goes to change their appearance, and it doesn't work out. Like say they go in a tanning bed and they get wrinkles from it. Would it be bad to say that they would have looked better had they not done that in the first place?

hahaha no i wasn't talking with a moderator hat, just as a member... nobody's getting warned here lol

i was just explaining so he might understand why a person might not take that sort of comment too well. there was another member a while back who told someone she would look better if she didn't have glasses or something, and i felt the same way for her. it's hard to put yourself "out there" and post a pic on the threads.

to your question.... for myself, i'd never say that to someone in the case you gave. if a person dyed their hair and it didn't suit them, for example, i'd keep it to myself. maybe they feel attractive like that!

my own internal "test" for those situations works like this. i ask myself:

will they be extremely embarrassed about X if i do not tell them (part A), and can they change X (part B)?

if the answer to both parts is YES, i will say something. if the answer to either part is NO, i keep my mouth shut.

so, if a person has toilet paper on their shoe (YES to part A & B), i tell them.
but if a person got wrinkly from tanning (could be YES or NO to part A, NO to part B), i zip my lips.

Naw, I wasn't thinking about it as the moderator anyways. It's too soon for my mind to immediately jump to that, no offence.

Yea, I could see that happening, it's hard for everyone their first time. Actually, my first pic had sunglasses...haha, I was shy. (at one point! )

Hmmm, I guess I could see what you are saying...and the tanning/wrinkles was a bad example. But if someone dyed their hair, they can take that back.

Tanning is horrible for your skin, it's the worst thing you can do to it,followed by smoking.

OSB should wear spf45+ whenever she goes out and never tan, she is DDG the way she is!! !

Here is an extreme example of what tanning and smoking does to your skin:

I would post a picture right now, but I wouldn't even bother to try to smile. :P

And personally, I don't like tanning. I like the sun on my skin once in awhile, but I'm not someone who enjoys seeing my skin darkening.

I am scared....I live in a sunny state....oh wait, you say I've lived here all of my life and been outside multiple times without sunscreen and lived to see the next day...yea.

The only time when tanning is bad is when you PURPOSELY lay out in the sun WITH THE INTENT of getting tan.

It would honestly make me crazy if I tried to put sunscreen on every time I went outside here.

Well it won't kill you if you don't, but you'd be surprised at how much damage you can get by just casual sun exposure. The skin on my forearms looks about 20 years older than the skin on my butt, just from being outside (I live in LA).

It's not a big deal to me, but I could have prevented it with habitual sunscreen application.

Not so. Melanoma is much higher in places where the temp is higher like the desert. Obviously, you won't die or have an adverse reaction beyond a sunburn right away, but I could probably dig up pictures of my ex grandmother-in-law who has to periodically get parts of her skin cut off (so she literally has HOLES) from her face due to simply living in the California desert most of her life.

Now, I'm not saying you should freak out but maybe you're being a tad passive about this. Sunscreen at the very least when you're out in the sun for more than an hour couldn't hurt.
