For the last few years, I've always aimed not to put on the heating in my house until November, but have always failed in this endeavour. I live in a town at the foot of the Pennines several hundred feet above sea-level, and it's a lot colder than in most of the country. This year however, I've succeeded! Now I'll see how long I can survive into this month without heating. With gas and electricity prices set to increase very significantly over the next few months, this could be quite a big deal.

I looked after the baby while Jane was at work because childcare does not have a slot for us on Tuesday.

I know that working parents are just supposed to rely on childcare but when you have a Monday to Friday job and the childcare says they have every weekday except for Tuesday, what the heck are you supposed to do?

Tonight I reworked my home automations to accommodate Jane's new work schedule. This was not an easy task since my home automations are full of spaghetti code that I created over the last couple of years. I wrote up a very informal spec to help me get my head around it. It ended up being 1300 words with 5 appendices.

^Being a parent, these days, involves so much logistics. It ain't fun any more.

I think I know the feeling. I've bought a place intending to use it as a rental with what was the most disgusting banged up and covered in goodness knows what toilet seat. It's obvious the vendor didn't want to spend a single cent on it before selling it. Contrast that to stupid vendors who spend thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars on renovations that don't add value to the property. Hopefully the nasty toilet seat put off the people I was bidding against.

Small things like this add a lot of appeal to a property when it's being sold or rented.
One of the few things I did was toss it out, thoroughly clean the entire toilet with bleach and put on a new $40 seat from Bunnings.

Got the MRI for my brain done today.

They played Pink Floyd through earphones.

The song playing when the test ended is called "Brain Damage".

I was expecting it based on the tracks played before that. The attendant looked shocked when I told her. Of course before that was "Time" telling me I was "one day closer to death".

MRI turned out alright.

Finished another big essay that I submitted to my professor through email!

took a track from the 1938 benny goodman allstars concert at carnegie hall ["bei mir, bist du schoen"] which supposedly was unrestorable, and restored it to sounding more like it should have sounded.

I sent a message to a specialist cycling shop, asking for their advice on tricyles. This is something I have been putting off for literally years.

Last night my beau helped me put up indoor Christmas lights and some Christmas decor. Every room is glowing in coloured Christmas light -- my favourite thing on Earth. I don't know if I'm going to put up a tree this year because my 4 month old kitten would likely try to climb it and eat the needles, but the light makes a beautiful ambience with vintage Christmas music (Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin, Bing, Nat King Cole).

Today we prepped my garden for winter, and I finished Volume I of Villette.

I couldn't ask for more. I'm so thankful for the goodness in my life, especially compared to this time last year.

permit me to offer you a warning about trikes, they can be very hard on the back.

I fixed the air pump for our bettas aquarium. It got dropped and wasn't working at all, but I put something back into place and now it works just fine. lmao
