I saw the nation's emblem...IN the nation's capital!

Well close to it.

Was making the long commute home from my strange hours job at around eleven AM. Driving through the middle of Washington DC on Rt. 395 into Virginia, and just as I took the exit to get on the G.W. Parkway that hugs the shore of the Virginia Potomac to get to the Maryland Beltway...I saw something atop a tree. A windblown black garbage bag tangled with a white trash bag that formed a mess that happened to be shaped like a bald eagle? Keep glancing at it, and ...OMG...it doesnt just look like a bald eagle...that IS a bald eagle! A large black bird with a white head...a top a tall tree. No way to stop. Had to keep moving. But there was no mistaking it.

Have lived all of my life in the city - which is adorned with countless stone images of bald eagles (on all of the countless monuments and Federal office buildings). But that was the first time a saw a real live (outside of the zoo) bald eagle anywhere inside the Washington Beltway. And this was less than a mile from the White House!

Raptors have made a come back. Have seen eagles nesting at Great Falls some miles from the city. But this sighting was my first in the heart of the region enclosed by the Beltway.

This whole day has made me happy. Finally feel bounced back from the weekend. Had a lazy morning, got my exercise in for the day, and managed to eat twice. Victory. It's been a good day.

I got a fretless banjo yesterday.
I've always wanted to check out a fretless instrument and just never had the chance before. I honestly didn't know fretless banjos were a thing until very recently. It's pretty intense and challenging, but also rewarding and inspiring.
