I spent the first month of my move here eating nothing but fast food or döner, despite that the fast food never had any flavour in hindsight, it was also very expensive. The döner was delicious, however, but I'm still working on building up my original pre-pandemic social skills to actually ordering food at the counter again, especially in German. Self-service was another reason I was so addicted to buying fast food all the time. The other reason is that my roommates, despite being very wonderful people to live with, are always hanging out in the kitchen and treating it as a living room which for me, who could switch between an introvert and extrovert, just is too much contact when I just want to make food in peace but can't until late in the evening.
However, I finally decided to look into meals that would stop me from "mindless eating" and make sure I don't get hungry throughout the day. For starters, when I actually started doing proper groceries, I bought a week's worth of food that was half, and sometimes even a quarter of what I'd spent at the fast food restaurants on a daily basis.
I originally started with soup, but have now moved to cooking pasta. I straight up felt like a "boomer" as I was at my job thinking about the remaining pasta I had stored in the Tupperware in the fridge to eat that evening.
Besides cooking, I asked ChatGPT to give me some meals to eat every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as snacks that would keep me full throughout the day. I also started using a fitness app to track my food and see if I'm getting the right nutrition. I have been eating more yogurt and today I ate a bag of whole nuts for lunch and it actually tasted pretty decent! I used to hate the thought of eating nuts, but it was actually pretty good, I can get used to this!
Can't wait until the paycheck comes in because this realisation to make food instead of getting fast food came at a pretty late stage of my bank account. (Plus the fact that I didn't have all the documents yet to get paid in Germany caused me to get through the past months with what's left of my savings)
I didn't feel hungry today at all, I'm not sure if this really was the effect of the AI-recommended meals or if I was just so convinced of this feeling that my body started believing it, too.
