MSG is an acronym for Monosodium glutamate

Apparently, some lines of scientific research have declared it to be an excitotoxin, capable of damaging brain neurons.
The research quality however is questionable.

It's probably a bit like the Aspartame issue in terms of danger - you'd need to consume a lot of it for it to have any discernible, negative health effect.
