I almost drowned when I was really young. I was in the shallow end and I decided to go into the deep end. That was a bad idea. I remember that my mom was mad at me afterwords and that I had to learn how to swim by my dad.

Yes, a couple of times. Once while surfing when I lost my board in storm surf. and another when our raft swamped on a class 6 river.

I went furthest into drowning on the river when I got sucked down and held down in a 'hydraulic' called appropriately enough 'Devil's hole. I could not break free and ended up at one point under a underwater rock overhang. When all strength and air was gone it got spacey in my head and the pain in my lungs subsided and I just started to drift in an underwater current. I was aware of what was happening the whole time. I did not see my life pass in front of my eyes, but I was pissed that I had made the plane that brought me to this trip in West Virginia. At the airport I was really really late, had to run and actually knock on the closed plane door to be let in. I saw irony in succeeding. Giving up and going limply with the flow is what saved me eventually, as i then went down river along the bottom and then popped up to the surface (I was wearing a life vest). Our whole raft of eight people had gone in the water when we missed our turn and went over an 8 foot falls. Now guides lined the sides throwing ropes. I was bounching along the rapids and saw a rope thrown in front of me, but then some guy in the water in front of me grabbed it and I went whistling past. I was mad that that guy got it, and did not know at the time it was my brother. I finally washed up in an eddy, and dragged myself out.

Didn't know how to swim yet, went to the deep end, lifeguard wasn't paying attention. A nice lady ruined her blouse to save me...

When I was little, my mom took me and my sister to go swimming at a nearby swimming pool. The swimming pool had a water slide and so, I was stupid enough to try the water slide out. I slid down the water slide into the swimming pool, getting water up my nose and some into my mouth. I had to cough several times to get the water out.

Oh yes, last year in Croatia. I am a pretty weak swimmer, but I somehow decided to swim near the middle of the bay. The funny thing was - being a BLONDE - that it was very easy for me to swim there, but I somehow forgot about the fact that one must spared some energy for actually swimming back. In short, I had exhausted myself and I started to drown. There were few people around me, I was crying for help, but none of them got closer. They were just watching me, as if they were waiting if I can get back myself. I started sinking down into the sea and panicking. But then I said to myself: "You don´t want to die. You CANNOT die this afternoon. Not like this." I had cramps in my hands, I was still swallowing water, but I decided to get back. Out of my last strenght, I finally GOT to the beach (hurray!). When I touched the dry sand with my feet, I literraly collapsed on it, and was just breathing. You think that somebody asked me if I was OK? Or even helped me? Hell no! They only made a circle around me and when I started getting up, they got back to the stuff they had been previously doing. That day, I was born again. For the rest of the holiday, I was just sitting in the water or getting only where I could touch the ground. I was quite scared.

I was alone in an apartment pool and got foot cramps in both feet. I managed to get to the ladder and hook my ar4m around it.

I think so, although I don't remember how it felt.

I was like 9 when i was swimming with my cousin. I couldn't swim actually so i was "wading" and slipped down the deep slope of the pool. I when into kangaroo mode and jumped to the surface. my cousin, first thought i was playing so he mimicked me. then he realized and pulled me to safety. My belly was so tight because i'd swallowed so much water. and yes, i'm terrified of large bodies of water, but i'm also totally fascinated. I'm obsesssed with drowning (at least the struggling part) scenes in movies. i even have "requirements": it has to be a man, it has to be a clear view, there has to be struggle and panic, no computer graphic effects (real water). I don't like when they actually die, i like to see the buildup. i have a freaking collection lol. I also have nightmares about orcas.
one more thing....i'm sick of all the over sexualized videos online of women underwater peril. (i actually don't like to see women in trouble  ) i get more out of guys because they are usually dominant, so the vulnerability gives me such a rush. it's like the same rush of a fighting scene. they should have more. not being able to breathe is baffling to me....once again i'm rambling

I had a near-drowning experience at the age of 8. I was in the family pool and I was struggling to get myself back above water. I'm amazed that nobody noticed.

I had a couple near-drowning experiences when I was a little kid. I won't go in water that's too deep to stand in because I'm still afraid of drowning.

I don't recall ever almost drawing but I was 1ce saved by a lifeguard when I was not drowning. When I was in 5th or 6th grade my class had a field-trip to a classmate's house for a pool-party. It was a huge pool for a family to have(a lot of my classmate's had a bit of money). There was a diving-board that was right above the pool in the deep end. When we 1st got there, a lot of us including me went straight for the diving board & jumped in. I was swimming after I jumped in but the lifeguard musta thought I was not swimming well enough because she pulled me out. I stayed out of the deep end for the rest of our field-trip. I have taken swimming lessons a couple years earlier but I was the worst student in the class & I had very few opportunities to go swimming before that field-trip.

My parents got a pool shortly before I started high-school. The neighbors across the street from us had an above ground pool with a deck & they gave the pool & deck to us when they moved out. The people who bought the house did not want it & they might of even paid more not to have to remove it themselves. The pool, deck, & our backyard needed a lot of work to get it set up but my dad took care of it. I went swimming there a bit during the summer but it was more standing & walking around than actual swimming. My parents got rid of it a year or so after I graduated high-school. It was a lot of work to get ready every spring & to maintain & we weren't using it that much. The grass is still f#cked-up in that spot & barely grows. I haven't gone swimming since but I never really had an opportunity to & didn't care enough to try & make one.
