interesting that plastic studs freak you out! do you worry about infection and that kind of thing, or is it just that they look weird?

They don't look weird at all. I just can't handle the thought of a piece of plastic in me.

oh, ok. everyone has their limits of what they find too strange or weird, hat's for sure! i remember i saw a pic of some kind of body-mod that involved thread that was sewn in and out of the skin. i was grossed out and i still feel disturbed when i think about it!

I would do that if I could handle it. I barely tolerate most clothes. Having it threaded through my skin would be too much. 8O

i had a nightmare about that when i was 3 or 4. this skeleton was using red yarn and a huge darning needle, and was sewing the yarn in and out of my skin, along my ribs, around and around. eeeeeeeeek! i think that's why it bothers me!

Yikes! That would be enough for just about anyone to be freaked out over it.

yeah i never got over that. funny but some people can't even *look* at my hand piercing, so i guess each person has their own threshold of discomfort, or at least their own things that freak them out!

I've never had a problem seeing other people's piercings. I find piercings to be a huge turn on, though. LOL I just can't have any of my own.

Wow, wouldn't you need a lot of webbing for that? Perhaps I have less than average but I cannot imagine having one fit. That plus the hand/claw stimming I do.

i'm not sure if i have a lot of webbing or not. maybe. i need to look at other people's hands more.

i'd like to get piercings between my fingers but i definitely don't have enough webbing for that.

i like to hold my thumbs tightly inside my fists and tuck my arms next to my body (like under a seatbelt or squished between me and the arms of a chair). the piercing feels cool when i do that.

I currently have three tattoos, though I've been tattooed four times - one is over the top of something I got done when I was 17. I love tattooing. I love the feel of it, the look, the smell, the sound, everything. The only thing I dislike in tattoos is meaningless fluff that some (especially women, but both sexes are capable of it) get done. Tattoos that mean nothing don't make any sense to me.

I appreciate the picture, thanks! Well you certainly have more webbing than I, or else it might be something I'd consider. I like your 'it's for fidgeting!' reason, too.

I think that if I got any more piercings - and by 'any more' I mean besides my humble two-in-each-earlobe and one upper left - my mother would have a heart attack. My upper ear was done yeaarss ago and she still asks "But doesn't it HURT?"

yes, i know what you mean about moms! i got my nose pierced when i was 18 (pre-metal-allergy), and my mom *freaked out*. i had moved out already but she cried and yelled and made such a fuss and made me feel sooooo bad so i had it removed. it was too painful for me to handle still so a doctor had to take it out for me. he tried to convince me to keep it in! the doctor thought it was cool.

the hand web piercings have a 90% rejection rate, so most people don't even try. friends keep asking when i'm going to give up on the 'experiment' because i keep getting it a bit infected (not bad - just a tiny bit). guess they don't know how stubborn i can be.

If your story applied to me it could easily be about my mother. When I got my ear done it was while I was away at university. I got it done with a floormate who got her nose done. I didn't tell either of my parents and hid it successfully for a while but realized I couldn't do so forever. :| My father picked me up from the train at march break when I came home for a visit and when he bear-hugged me he caught my few-week-old piercing. It was all I could do to prevent myself from crying openly.

I think I would like to get something else 'normal' pierced but I can't think of a thing. I knew what I wanted with my ears since I was 7, so I don't really feel like adding more. I had entertained the thought of a tongue piercing for a while but it is not practical for me.

I don't really get the whole hand piercing thing. It seems like a really awkward place to put it.

it actually isn't too awkward. in 5 months it's never gotten caught on anything (unlike the ear piercings that i used to have, which got caught on my hair often), and i can do everything as usual. i can open jars, use power tools, shove my hand in my pocket, pull on a pair of jeans, cut veggies, put curlers in my kid's hair.... whatever i need to do. it's also on my non-dominant hand, though if it is successful (lasts over a year, by my own personal timeline), i think i would consider doing the other hand.

I have 8 tattoos and an earring. I find getting tattooed relaxing and a time for meditation. It is quite odd when you think about it---I don't want to sound weird or anything, but there is something very interesting knowing that your body is getting forever modified while you just lay there.

I got my first tattoo on my right shoulder blade---I can say I barely felt it. I wondered why it didn't hurt much. It was ok that it didn't hurt, but I still wondered. Then I went back about 3 months later and got a tattoo on the left side of my chest. Yeah, it hurt a bit. Then, I got daring. I got a large tribal cross that runs from my upper chest, down my sternum, and around my navel. The horizontal part runs past both of my nipples and onto my ribs. Yes---that entire tattoo was quite painful, but in that same relaxing and meditative way. Even though it hurt, I didn't squirm or anything. The artist even said he had I was the first person he had ever tattooed on these parts that didn't express pain.

My tattoos are:

Eagle over a mountain and river scene on my right shoulder blade and down my back (it was expanded later to this)
Dragon flying over a castle on my left shoulder blade
Panther on my left chest
Lion Rampant on my right chest
Griffin on my right upper arm
Tribal on my left upper arm
Tribal cross on my chest and stomach
Tribal on my left leg/calf
