@ xemnasfan Assuming they didn't send any attachments to the email and you haven't visited any sites they may have asked you to visit, you shouldn't have picked up any malware (yet). Just delete their email and any more they send you. They will likely add you to what is known as the "suckers list" and you could likely start receiving spam for everything from viagra to porn to horoscopes etc. They may also send threatening emails demanding "compensation money" too. Don't reply to anything. Just keep deleting the stuff and don't open any attachments. If they persist I suggest you abandon your email address and switch to a new one.

i haven't opened any attachments, agreed to anything, or anything like that infact my reply was for them to piss off. i have their address blocked with mailwasher for the moment, blacklisted and auto delete.

but i keep wondering why now of all times to be attacked, i mean i usually don't keep my email a secret on any site i am on, why wrongplanet of all places do they think we're idiots or something. i expected devaint art or youtube.

it a good thing that i don't have much important things on my computer, [well important stuff that would normally get stolen] all i have is games emulators a few programs, video, art, and music.

so even if i did get hacked they won't find anything they would want.

These people don't care where they get email addresses from. They harvest the lot and put them into big databases of people to spam or scam and also share / sell the addresses to other spammers and scammers.

Just sending them a rude email reply confirms that your email address is valid and consequently means your address is even more likely to be spammed / scammed again by others.

I had an email address several years ago that just exploded with the amount of spam it received - 100 per day. It becomes impossible to filter out all the crap by that stage without filtering out some legitimate emails too. The only realistic solution if it gets that bad is to abandon the email address and use a different one.

Since then I have multiple email addresses used for different purposes. I only use throwaway (Yahoo) email addresses on internet forums.

i'm just saying youtube is more popular that's all.

yeah i shouldn't have replied but before that point i had never gotten spam email, or someone trying to scam me. so i thought it was a random person who stumbled across me and i was more then willing to tell them off. i will know for the future.

if i can avoid changing my email i will i'm not going through he hassle of changing my info on every site i've got an account with, i don't even remember how many net sites i have accounts on.
