If there was any number I could know, it would be the value for fℓ. The drake equation is beautiful. I have no interest in ever seeing an Alien though, natural selection breeds killers :)

As for my own theory, I think that consiousness is little more than what happens in a system of sufficient complexity, and that it isn't necessarily just specific to biological systems.

Theory time
I just posted about sundowning in another post
When the sun goes down
And Alzheimers patients get worse
I was wondering if it happens to Aspies
Because I feel kind of crazier at night
Lycanthropic sometimes
What if Lycanthropy is a form of Autism
I dont have much to base it on besides my usual intense hunches

DO NOT BE OFFENDED ANYONE
JUST A THEORY

Turn away if you cant take a comment about my analysis of people
It is a very general analysis no hard facts

From what I understand of AS
It is a different wiring basically
Schizophrenia is closely related or closely grouped
Im not 100%
What if being Gay is a form of Autism
A rewiring
What if its a form of Aspergers
Very socially confused
(Stereotyping is in effect again no offense intended)
(Stereotypes are meant as way for humans to be able to access situation sensitive information faster, like in a fight or flight sense, it is a defensive tool)
The stereotypical gay is very Flighty
Often fascinated with little things
One of my Aspie obsessions is people watching and analyzing its what I do all the time
I cant stop
What if these are Autistic people whose obsession is being the opposite sex
They always say they felt different all their lives
A person I know just told me they are gay a week ago
1 of 2 lifelong acquaintences
I thought he might be a high functioning Autie a few months ago

These are just things Ive noticed and my brain told me went together
And when my Dark Passenger calls
I must obey

That reminds me
Is Dexter an Aspie?

Well, the idea that many mental illnesses run along the same spectrum is fair enough, Schitzophrenia and ASD's seem to be diametrically opposed. I don't think being gay is a mental disorder though, merely a varying trait, like a high IQ or red hair.

Not a sense of offense in the air
Thanks
That could be true as well
I just cant see it as a choice
Like I didnt choose to be different
It just seems so hard written in a lot of cases
Figured it has to more than a lifestyle
A different kind of human
Like Aspies
Dogs all come from wolves
Big little fat skinny
You get the point

I see your point. In a series of MIT psychology lectures I listened to how an abnormality is often classified an illness by cultural standards. An extreme example was how a Slave trader wrote a book on how "a desire to run away" is an disorder in Slaves, as he supposed the proper place of a Negro was on a plantation.

As for the "hard written" case, I'm a little skeptical. Certainly, it isn't a choice, but surely a "gay gene" would be one that would be very unlikely to make it to the next generation (man + man = no baby). On the other hand, I've read that gay male brain activity patterns (measured by PET or FMRI I suppose) are similar to female brain patterns. Perhaps it only has low penetrance, or its transmitted by family members, or the "Gay Genes" are linked to very beneficial traits. Who knows?

Even if homosexuality is hard wired, I don't consider it a disorder. Black Hair is also hardwired right? Still, examples like this do illuminate some of the fuzziness in psychology, so it's good to thing about them. :)

Gay people are an evolutionary awesomeness
Maybe not but close
In an overpopulated world
Many orphans exist
Yet more babies come around any way
Gay people are there to level out this craziness
Maybe not genetic evolution but
Societal evolution

Also I had this theory years ago
I heard it backed up by a scientist last year
My info isnt quoted though
Just remembered
Maybe it has alot to do with gender roles
We are blank slates as embryos
The Penis and the Clitoris are the same thing
Just depending on what gender we become it forms differently
The Ovaries and Testes start the same
The Scrotum is the Vulva
The seem that runs down the Scrotum
Is where the Vulva fused
The Ovaries drop down and become Testicles
The Clitoris grows into the penis

There is more to it but thems the basics
Maybe during our sexual formation
Wires get crossed

Well, I wouldn't say "evolution", but it is kinda serendipitous. Although Human Population Growth still looks frightfully like the exponential growth model at the moment.

As for my own theory, I imagine that there are selective pressures that stop the DNA polymerases from becoming too efficient

and now for something far more prosaic- it has been my experience, that to make any money from the slot machines in vegas, [slight differences in "tightness" notwithstanding] you must first choose a machine that with your own eyes, that you have seen at least 2 other people prime with their money, only to lose their money and their interest before much time has elapsed, say an hour per person. glom onto this machine before anybody else gets any similar ideas. then prime the machine with at least 400 times the denomination of the machine- for example, if you're using a 5-cent one-armed bandit, you must prime the machine with at least 20 dollars. once you've done this, then play "bet 3" [at once]- the math comes out favorably at this point, if you play between an hour and two hours you will get back at least the amount you put in plus between 50% and 100%, every time. i never could afford to play any richer a machine, so i can only say this works for the 5-cent machines.

oh, as for a half-assed "theory", it is- gambling is a roundbout form of theft, by "the drawing of the short straw" [or the unfortuntely timed, tight machine]- theft by lot. so i don't do it anymore.

The average female talks so much that oxygen levels in a room decrease porportionally to the number of women present. At the critical value, a male will lose the capacity to think coherently and will become compliant and agreeable. This is why women always travel in packs when they are on the hunt for a man, and why most men have a confused look on their faces when dealing with women. It's science.

The moon & the sun are the same thing; that's why you never see the two of em at the same time

There is no true "peaceful" religion. All religions can be corrupt and re-wrote by the priests and kings to control and hurt others. The real afterlife, may be one that has enough power to test feed a nation of sufferers and stigmatists and martyrs, but the only truth is the one in which you carry through life, and not the cleanup.

I kind of have a theory about Mario in the Nintendo games. In Donkey Kong Junior, the sequel to Donkey Kong, he became the antagonist who captured DK, who had to be rescued by his son. In the original DK Mario's GF Pauline was kidnapped by DK, so most people think He captured DK in the sequel as getting revenge. But maybe Mario was the really bad guy in Donkey Kong. The antagonistic protagonist. Maybe he was cruel to DK, and then he escaped. Maybe he stole Pauline because she was kind to him, or he just had a crush on her. Anyway in the sequel there's an ending animation in the final stage where DK kicks Mario off the screen after being rescued by Junior. Perhaps the head injury caused by the attack ended up changing his personality and he became the cheerful, heroic-type character people know and love today.

But that's just a theory. And I kind of hate theories because it's like people are out to murder my childhood."Mario is evil, he always has been", "Sonic is evil, too", "Earthbound is about aborting a fetus who is really not evil and the heroes are real d***s for killing him", "All the Disney movies have subliminal sex messages", "Disney's Aladdin is in a post-apocalyptic world, that's why Genie knows so much about pop culture". Yeah like I'm sure when Disney was working on the movie that's exactly what was going through their minds instead of, "Let's make a movie based on the Arabian Nights story but instead of a boring generic genie let's have him voiced by a famous comedian (R.I.P) who will add all kinds of humor to the film".

My cat knows Euclidean geometry and Newtonia physics (is very good at calculating ballistic trajectories).

There are no particles (the intuitive concept of) in this universe & there will never be any.

The cake is not a lie, but the strudel is, and donuts should never be humored.

If you wish for something hard enough you will get a headache.

If you wish upon a star it will crash into your planet and kill everyone.

If you build it they will come, but they will be giant rats.
