I'm doing a little case study, who else here loves cats and has been or is obsessed with them?
Why are you?
What makes them more appealing than other animals. I can only answer for myself but I want the opinions of others.
Hey HaleBopp,
I love cats, I have three of them now, Winchester, Obsidian and Sterling. I'm not really obsessed with them, I don't want to get anymore of them. But they are a big part of my life and I do love them a great deal. They're my fur-babies. Actually Winchester is my son's cat but he's in the US Marines so I take care of him now.
I'm a big dog lover too. I would probably have a dog but it's easier for me to have cats living in a small one bedroom apartment.
Cats are more appealing to me at this time because they don't smell like dogs, I don't have to bathe them as much, like every week. I don't have to take my cats out for walks regularly in good or bad weather and worry about fleas and ticks being on them and brought back into my apartment. They don't bark endlessly. But they do meow if something isn't just right and Obsidian growls when men come to the door. My cats will chew things up but not like my past dogs have done. They chew small wires and pony tail holders I use for my hair. They like to chew on new things I bring in the apt. It's weird, I know. I do have to change the kitty litter every few days with the three of them. But it's no big deal.
Winchester and Obsidian think they are lap dogs and that I'm Minnie Mouse and here to entertain them. I tell them to act like cats, but they don't pay me any mind. They love to be petted, scratched, brushed, held and played with a whole lot. They're spoiled and demanding and in that respect they aren't any different from dogs I've had before. I love to pet cats just as much as I did my dogs.
Sterling was obviously abused before I found her abandoned in an alley by a filthy dumpster but she's warming up to me from watching the other two get so much attention.
Obsidian is highly sensistive to me, my emotions and when I become really ill, she gets upset and wants to be close to me just like my dogs have done with me. I've never had a cat do that with me before. She'll guard me too if someone comes in and sometimes she does that with Winchester and Sterling. She's a Chocolate/Black Northwestern Tiffany and I have read that is common behavior for them.
I knew a woman once who collected cats real ones and little nick-nack figurines of cats, everything in her house was cats, cats and cats, it was incredible to walk into her home. That's being obsessed with cats.
I hope this helps with your study.
