I love cats and dogs equally. I cannot make up my mind which one is better. They are so different so that makes them not comparable to each other.

I love cats because at least to me they seem to sense my mood and need for company better than our dogs.
They are independent but strangely there whenever you need them.
I can look at animals whereas i find it hard with people, and i find cats more beautiful than any other animal.
Theyre excellent living hot water bottles in winter!, my cat behaved like a human when it came to going to sleep...she would jump up on the bed after i got in, sit on the pillow and wait for me to turn the doona down on her side, then crawl under the doona, do a few turns and then collapse right against me, and with her head on the pillow. She did this her entire life. I had to learn to sleep on my right side as she would only sleep on her right side, but thats the sacrifice you make when you want a cuddle and its minus 2.
She liked to get up to watch the sunrise, even in winter, if you got up with her and went over the window with her, you got rewarded by her leaning against you firmly with lots of purring and nuzzling.

It was strange when she died, id last seen her a few days beforehand and i woke up that last time with her gently pawing my throat and on her left hand side looking at me. I didnt think anything of it at the time, just thought she was being a bit more of a sook than usual, but later i released that was the only time she'd ever slept on her left side, and that and pawing at me was her saying goodbye.

My last cat died on new years eve 2000 and she very much the closest friend i ever had. We were inseparable when we were together, which wasnt a lot sometimes as she lived with my parents 2 and a half hours away and i could only visit when they were home and amenable to visits.

Its taken 10 years to even think of having another cat, which i can have now ive moved home and am building my own garden retreat/cave on mum and dads property. I spend most days looking online at shelter sites and rehoming programs for my new best friend. The only thing holding me back from getting one like 10 minutes ago is the progress of my building. Luckily im getting close to finishing in the next month or so.

It will be weird though, having another cat, as the last one was so much part of me and my life, and im a little worried whether the new one and i will sync to that point.

When my cat died last year, I was reluctant to get another one, because I was afraid that a new cat might not bond to me. I decided to take the chance anyway, and have not regretted that decision. Sometimes, you just have to take a chance, and hope for the best.

One thing i've noticed is that I actually enjoy making eye contact with cats. Whereas it's virtually possible for me to do with humans. what is this about? Do other autistic people make exception for animals when it comes to eye contact. If so what are the reasons behind it?

Yet another thing that has only just occured to me... Is hypersensitivity the link between cats and Asperger's Syndrome?

They don't like noise and unexpected sounds. They tend not to warm towards unfamiliar people and unfamiliar cats for that matter. They have to smell everything that gets put in front of them (a trait that is shared by This Guy)
They generally have a narrow diet. If a cat could speak its first sentence is never going to be "can you turn the light on please"

Why should you resist? The world needs more cat pictures. Those cats (your cats?) are beautiful.

Cats look nice, but they're evil, property-destroying beasts. They piss all over. While growing up, cats destroyed all the carpet in the house by pissing. They clawed the sh!t out of the furniture. Their hair got everywhere. I hate cats to this day.

I'm doing a little case study, who else here loves cats and has been or is obsessed with them?

Why are you?
What makes them more appealing than other animals. I can only answer for myself but I want the opinions of others.

Hey HaleBopp,

I love cats, I have three of them now, Winchester, Obsidian and Sterling. I'm not really obsessed with them, I don't want to get anymore of them. But they are a big part of my life and I do love them a great deal. They're my fur-babies. Actually Winchester is my son's cat but he's in the US Marines so I take care of him now.

I'm a big dog lover too. I would probably have a dog but it's easier for me to have cats living in a small one bedroom apartment.

Cats are more appealing to me at this time because they don't smell like dogs, I don't have to bathe them as much, like every week. I don't have to take my cats out for walks regularly in good or bad weather and worry about fleas and ticks being on them and brought back into my apartment. They don't bark endlessly. But they do meow if something isn't just right and Obsidian growls when men come to the door. My cats will chew things up but not like my past dogs have done. They chew small wires and pony tail holders I use for my hair. They like to chew on new things I bring in the apt. It's weird, I know. I do have to change the kitty litter every few days with the three of them. But it's no big deal.

Winchester and Obsidian think they are lap dogs and that I'm Minnie Mouse and here to entertain them. I tell them to act like cats, but they don't pay me any mind. They love to be petted, scratched, brushed, held and played with a whole lot. They're spoiled and demanding and in that respect they aren't any different from dogs I've had before. I love to pet cats just as much as I did my dogs.

Sterling was obviously abused before I found her abandoned in an alley by a filthy dumpster but she's warming up to me from watching the other two get so much attention.

Obsidian is highly sensistive to me, my emotions and when I become really ill, she gets upset and wants to be close to me just like my dogs have done with me. I've never had a cat do that with me before. She'll guard me too if someone comes in and sometimes she does that with Winchester and Sterling. She's a Chocolate/Black Northwestern Tiffany and I have read that is common behavior for them.

I knew a woman once who collected cats real ones and little nick-nack figurines of cats, everything in her house was cats, cats and cats, it was incredible to walk into her home. That's being obsessed with cats.

I hope this helps with your study.

Even though they do all those things, I will really love cats forever.

I really want to get a black cat when I'm older. I'm currently living with no cats in the house, it sucks. There are cats walking around in this neighbourhood that make me feel happier.
