What is dude anyway?

Someone called me dude in PM and I didn't have a problem with it. No wonder he apologized.

"dude" means "man" "guy" "male"

it can also just be a hipster way of saying "person" (male or female)

"You're hot for a fat girl"

A backhanded compliment is a compliment which implies that whoever or whatever is being complimented is merely good when compared to similar undesirable things.

"For a chubby girl, she's very pretty."

"Your breath smells unusually good today."

"For this neighborhood you have a very nice house."

you have a lovely unblemished complexion on your face. i guess it is that way because almost everything goes over your head.

"Your pictures don't do you justice."

Is this one? I'm not sure how to take it. Does it mean my pictures are really ugly?

i always perceived that as a compliment, more 'you look fairer in person' rather than 'your pictures look ugly'

an old friend of fudo's once said, to a passing cyclist (&a few times since) "nice bike!... shame about the bike" low-wit surely, but we did laugh

"Those blackheads make a really interesting pattern".

"You could almost pass as a woman." "Ummm I am a woman."
"I am really attracted to you." From a transsexual in a gay bar.
"If you were shorter, you would be perfect."
"You make me feel feminine." A 6foot woman the other day.
"I would love to be taller, just not as tall as you."
"Can i have my photo taken with you, i have never seen a woman so tall."


Yeah it sucks to be over 6'3".

me: i can see that you came from a poor family.
her: that's right i did.
me: i know. i can suss it out.
her: but you came from a rich family so why are you interested in me?
me: because i am intrigued.
her: what about?
me: about how such a potentially beautiful smile like you could have had can look so wrong when not corrected by braces. that is how i determined you family was poor.
her: ahhh well then ok. i might just check out the billiard room.
me: ok have fun.

then i am back to solo, and i can do anything i please solo.

Oh that's good then. I guess I just don't know why someone would compliment me like that so I figured it must be an insult in disguise.

How about, "You're attractive when you smile." (But otherwise not?)

(Looking at a picture) "Wow, you used to be pretty!"
I actually said that to my grandmother when I was a kid. But I really did mean it as a compliment.

me: you have beautiful golden hair.
her: you think so?
me: yes it is very pure.
her: so it's worth it's weight in gold!
me: yes it is. gold prices are are going to plummet as soon as the recovery gets in to swing (which it will). in times of turmoil, gold is valuable, but in times of prosperity, gold takes a seat near the rear of the auditorium. never the less your hair is very golden to look at.

to a person who you do not like because of whatever reasons...

when they seem to understand what you say....

"ohmagod!! ! it is possible to polish a grain of sand! i never considered talking to you before because i did not have a powerful enough microscope to see you with, but now i do i will talk to you again, and say "goodnight, i am tired and i have lost interest".

I can sure get those two.

"You're attractive when you smile" means you are only attractive when you smile. So when you don't smile, you aren't attractive.

"Wow, you used to be pretty" mean she used to be pretty but now she isn't anymore.


I wonder if this be a back handed compliment: "You look better in real life" (referring to them in the photos)
