Oh that's good then. I guess I just don't know why someone would compliment me like that so I figured it must be an insult in disguise.
How about, "You're attractive when you smile." (But otherwise not?)
(Looking at a picture) "Wow, you used to be pretty!"
I actually said that to my grandmother when I was a kid. But I really did mean it as a compliment.
I can sure get those two.
"You're attractive when you smile" means you are only attractive when you smile. So when you don't smile, you aren't attractive.
"Wow, you used to be pretty" mean she used to be pretty but now she isn't anymore.
I wonder if this be a back handed compliment: "You look better in real life" (referring to them in the photos)
