I just remembered I knew someone online years ago who mentioned this place to me but I didn't check it out then. He wasn't famous himself but he claimed to be related to Michael J Fox. Said his dad was a director & his mom was a not well known actress. He was a real ass on the site I knew him from & he wrote sick sexual stories about members. Had spent some time in a mental ward because he attacked a Mormon or something when he was in rehab

I was about to ask if the owner of that site is famous, but I finally figured out the humor of stretching the definition of "on topic." The lightbulb showed up when I saw the emoticon after your post. Interesting thread attached to your second link.

Leave it to me to be misinterpret an emoticon. But shouldn't it have been this one:  ?

 I like the :P
Interesting thread eh? Classic PPR

One of the ex-members of this site wrote two novels published by a publishing house releasing books from the mental health field so in this circle she could be classified as relatively famous.

There are probably a few famous people here but if I know who they are I will not say and neither will they.

I don't understand what the fuss is about to be honest. I get faceblindness so I have probably met many famous people and not known who they are in my past line of work, but they are people. No different to anyone else. They need to have lives that allow them to be people without being pestered. Yes it is nice to be appreciated, but when people try to befriend you just because you are famous who actually are your real friends? I mean.... When the chips are down then who will remain? The majority of people who claim to be friends will go if a small black mark is put against your name or if you have lost your fortune... And then there is no one. What is the point of fame? It is meaningless!

Famous people need real friends as deep down they are often lonely. They need people who when they feel abandoned, they can call on and who will be there. They need people they can trust.

Famous people are no different from you and I. They want to be able to walk down the street with the ability to retain their privacy. They want to be allowed to make mistakes without their mistakes being aired around the world for all to see. They just want to live their own lives.

Sure, there are times when they want some pampering and to feel loved and appreciated! But keep them for the special times when they are on stage. If you see them off stage, say "Hello" and "Thank you" but then let them be who they are to enjoy their privacy.

As others mentioned, R. Crumb was here briefly ;) His GF posted for him, because he doesn't use computers.

I know this is an old post, but I wonder if he was who I think he was...I can't remember his name, but I saw his standup once...I remember him telling a story about how he brought his son to the doctor, worried that
vaccines might have caused his autism, and the doctor told him that autism is hereditary, and gave him a wink and a nod.

I did not see that stand up & this is kinda off topic but if that story is real, the doctor was being very dismissive. I do NOT believe that vaccines cause autism but a doc being that dismissive about an issue that a patient suspects was caused by the medical industry, would make me VERY untrusting of that doc & the medical industry in general.

Famous people usually have a rep who screens social media for them.

They are usually too busy to spend time on chatboards.

The reality TV stars may be less likely to have a rep. There was an ep of Catfish where a girl had been chatting with the guy from the show My Fat Fabulous Life on social media & he did not want to meet up with her. They eventually managed to get him to agree to a meetup & it really was him. He just did not really want to take the relationship seriously. They told the girl to move on but when they were chatting with her a couple months later, she said they were together & he started being serious.

#1 I'm paraphrasing, as I haven't seen the special in quite some time, and do not have it memorized.
#2 He's a standup comedian telling jokes.
;)

BTW, after reading what he posted, I don't think it's him.
Also, I found who I was thinking of (and it's an article from WP, no less!):
Jim Jefferies https://wrongplanet.net/comedian-jim-je ... -vaccines/

I seen some stand up Jim Jefferies did a long time ago but he was not joking about autism in that. I'll read the article & try to look for the special at some point. Thanx for mentioning this :D

I'm interpreting the joke as the father not realizing he also has autism, the doctor implying "your son got it from you" since it's hereditary.

Oh OK that makes sense. I'm the only one in my family who has autism & my parents were very used to docs & other medical professionals giving us the brush-off with stuff related to me. I'm used to being brushed-off sometimes by medical professionals as an adult as well so that's probably why I interpreted the joke as the doc just not caring & being imminently defensive about the very idea that that his medical industry may be at fault. Docs want to pretend that themselves & their medical industry are infallible & refuse to take any responsibility for any potential malpractice or other f#ck-up.

Is Simon Baron-Cohen 'famous'?

Maybe marginally so. I once met this guy and had a very interesting interaction indeed with him.

I'd be fascinated to know whether he reads the WP forums.

That's all, folks!

I don;t know about Baron-Cohen, but I have interacted with one female research psychologist who lurks on this forum. She isn't famous but I thought I would mention we get spied upon my various mental health specialists who work with autistic clients.
