in the chilterns there are neighbouring settlements called stonor and pishill (i know which one id rather live in)

i have a soft spot for 'chipping sodbury' as it manages to sound like a satisfying expletive combo whilst subtley avoiding actually being offensive.

Or has anyone here even heard of it? It's in Kent, by the way. I live there. It's a run-down little seaside town with nothing going for it.

I thought I may as well make this thread, as I've seen various ones like it.

(To be honest, I doubt this'll get any replies, but it'll be good if it does).

When I was a child I, and sometimes, my sister, used to get packed off to Deal during school holidays. I had an aunt who lived on the seafront road. Beach Road? Just up from that jetty/pier thing. Great in summer but, God, in winter it was sooooo depressing. I had a bedroom at the front of her house and the wind used to really howl in off the channel. I had an aunt in Charing too. That was a terrible place to visit. We hated going there. There was nothing at all to do.

I'm not sure of the name of the road by the seafront. I hardly ever leave my house. But the pier is just a load of rubbish really. A big lump of concrete in the sea, with a statue of a man essentially making love to a big fish in a small boat, stuck right at the front of it.

Maybe it's changed since you were there last, it's depressing all the time now....

The thing is, it's just a dank empty shell.

Nice picture though.

Apparently Henry number 8 built it with his own fair hands, don't you know?

Well, he ordered it to be built.

And the second highest rate of teenage mothers after Nottingham

Lovely. :P Like I've said, mine has nothing. It's a mere ghost town with just some guy sat in his room all day wearing a ninja rabbit mask.

OH OH! And a boat.

I knew a couple of musicians who joined the Royal Marines Band and were based in Deal.
I also did my ambulance driver training on the narrow winding roads of Kent with the occasional day trip to Rye, Hastings, Dover and dear old Dungeness.

Whitstable and Canterbury are interesting and when I lived in London I used to buy a real Christmas tree from a place near Snodland.

I do like Canterbury a lot. Really nice place all round.

I feel the complete opposite about Dover though, eww!

I've not been to Rhyl since I was 4. I get off the train at Llandudno, instead...much nicer.

This is where I live. Didsbury in Manchester, England. Twinned with a Didsbury in New England (I think). I'm a five minute walk from the River Mersey, which at this point is only about six metres wide.

These images were supposed to be in the previous post but WP wouldn't accept them for some reason.
