Why is Timon the meerkat hated so much?

Wow, I never knew that people actually hated Timon - I liked both him and Pumbaa...they sort of bounce off of one another, which always makes for funny interactions. And they actually provided much - needed comic relief in the first movie (and second movie), given the events leading up to their appearance.

I am sick of all meerkats.

Apart from Timon, he's pre meerkat fad.

What?! I love Timon! Sure he's an egocentric jerk, but he's got a good heart and cares about his friends. :( And, he's funny! He and Pumbaa are hilarious and add the comic relief to the film. I love them both!

There's always a Timon type in movies like that, for instance Sid in Ice Age is basically the same character.

There are people who dislike Timon? He was one of my favorite characters from the film. In fact, I do not think there is a single character I dislike in The Lion King: even Scar, as traitorous and evil as he was, was still very charismatc.
