Cats. They're low maintainance, don't drool, don't bark and are very loving.

And they purr and rub themselves against their owners :D If I were to turn zoophile for one animal, it would be a cat

Really? You would rather shoot a human point blank than you would a dog?

Guinea pigs.
They're sweet, funny little guys.

I recently had a duckling, and I had to give it away. I didn't tell anyone this, but it was eating me up inside because I couldn't give it enough attention. I cried when I gave it up but I know I had to so it could be with other beings all the time.

This reminds me of something horrible that happened when I was a kid. My family got a baby duck from I don’t remember where, and we took care of it for a long time. Cutest goddamned thing I’ve ever seen. Followed me around everywhere. We had a small pond in our back yard, and I loved taking it out to go swimming. But it started to get bigger, and my parents made me get rid of it. Their method of getting rid of it was to take it to the city park where there are lots of ducks and abandon it amongst them. I should have stayed home when they did it, because it was the saddest thing I’ve ever seen. It kept following us when we tried to leave. I still wonder to this day what happened to it. I always think of the worst, and wonder if it was killed or something.

I feel much more sympathy for animals than humans. I’ve seen videos of prisoners of war being executed, and it had little effect on me. But when I see those commercials with the suffering dogs and cats in the animal shelters, my day is ruined.

I would rather not shoot anyone, naturally, and the hypothetical is quite unrealistic.
All else being equal, there wouldn't be a way for me to decide, as either way I'd be causing incredible agony and perhaps death.

I would likely shoot the human because all else isn't equal- the dog would have an expontentially-less harmful impact on the Earth than would the human, especially if said human lived in the West.

If there was an evil human and a good dog...definitely the human.

Yep. Sounds similar. :/ I hope my duck is okay. They really have an odd cuteness. It's so intense and unlike any other animal I've ever had.

But you guys who all say you'd rather shoot the human don't take morals into consideration? I mean, it's a human. It's your kin.

I definitely understand preferring the company of animals to people. But I could never shoot a human. Even if I had to shoot 10 sweet dogs instead, I'd shoot the dogs. Humans are too smart and similar, and we've got a responsibility to save them.

Q: What do you get when you cross a rug, a plane, and a mini van?

A: a flying carpet

Dogs, hands down. I've had other animals over the years: birds, cats, hamsters, fish. But dogs are interactive, give love unconditionally (even if you get upset when they do something wrong, they still love you), are always happy to see you (doesn't matter if you've been gone for 2 minutes, hours at a time, or days-they greet you like you've been gone forever), they're trainable, etc.

Yes, they need maintenance: daily water, food, attention, brushings (depending on the breed & coat type), training, etc. But my relationship with my dog is much deeper than one with humans (I have severe distrust with the species overall). My dog travels with me whenever he can, doesn't complain, & puts up with my quirks. What's not to like?

I love your avatar! That is one beautiful dog!
